Naturally, my favourite is Arnold Schwarzenagger. “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark…and Hamlet is taking out the trash!”

Laurence Olivier is definitely great, but I did quite like Kenneth Branagh’s performance as well. I actually had no idea there was a modern-day version of “Hamlet” set in New York with Hawke as the main character. I should go and rent it to see if it’s any good.
I was just thinking that Branagh was the most convincing….and then I got all frustrated at the life imitating art imitating life bit about product placement in movies. Hawke’s soliloquy in a blockbuster pushes home the point about explicit sponsorship of movies…..I don’t like it.
If it weren’t for the fact that it was in blockbuster, I personally would have liked Hawke’s portrayal the best. But it could just be that I’m a fan.
Oren – it’s kinda funny that you’re referring to Olivier as modern Shakespeare when the film was made in 1948. But I do suppose it’s all relative, and in comparison to when it was written it is modern.
