Valentine's Day Activities
Pipe Cleaner Hearts
You will need:
- pipe cleaners (chenille stems)
- Beads (the ones used in hair)
Refrigerator Magnet
You will need:
- Red, pink and white craft foam
- Wiggle eyes
- Magnet
- Glue
Directions: Cut five hearts from the foam craft paper; one large white heart, two medium pink hearts and two small hearts, one pink and one red. Turn the large white heart upside down and draw a line of glue from the point toward the curved part of the heart, very near the edge.
Lay two medium hearts on the glue with the points touching each other. Put a drop of glue on each of the curves of the red heart, now position this part of the heart underneath the large white heart with the tip showing. Put a drop of glue on the small pink heart, turn it upside down and glue it just above the curves of the heart. Put a drop of glue on the white heart for each of the wiggle eyes. After the dog dries turn it over and attach the magnet.
Get to the Point
You will need:
- card stock or cut the picture side from a card sent to you
- Pencil
- Double sided tape
- Sharpie marker
Cut a 4 inch by ¾ inch strip piece of card stock. Roll one end around the top of the pencil and secure it with tape. Write your message with a sharpie marker.
Suggested messages: Write On!, All Write!, Write Away!, You're Sharp!
Valentine's Day Pencil Topper
You will need:
- Craft foam hearts in red, white and pink
- Glue
- Sequins
Take a foam heart and punch holes on either side in order to slide the pencil through. Decorate your heart with sequins, smaller foam hearts, fabric glue, etc. and leave it to dry.
Thread your pencil through the holes in the heart. Your heart pencil topper should sit snug on the end of your pencil.
Love Bracelets
- You will need:
- Craft foam
- Hook & eye fasteners
- Foam stickers or other embellishments
Directions: Cut a rectangle of craft foam 1 inch wide and long enough to go around your wrist with an inch to spare. If you like, cut the edges of the rectangle into a pattern.
Stick the eye fastening to one end of the front of the bracelet, and stick the hook fastening to the back of the bracelet at the other end.
Decorate with the foam stickers or other embellishments.
Foam Roses
You will need:
- 1 ½ green chenille stems (per flower)
- Red craft foam
- Scissors
- Low temperature glue gun & glue sticks
Directions: Set aside the ½ chenille stem for a later step. Take the full chenille stem and bend it in half. Starting at the bent end, twist the chenille stem around itself all the way up. When you reach the end trim it to make it even if needed.
Cut out 1" tear drop shapes from the red foam, you need 7 of these.
Cut ¾" tear drop shapes from the red foam, you need 3 of these.
Lay a 1" drop on the table, point side down. Glue the open end of the twisted chenille stem to the red tear drop petal.
Glue a second tear drop behind the first the first tear drop (point side down), most of the tear drop in back will be visible. Repeat on the other side. Repeat again on each side, gluing them in a curved fashion (similar to a half circle). When you are done there should be one petal in the middle and 3 on each side.
Glue one of the smaller tear drop petals on top of the chenille stem.
Glue one of the smaller tear drop petals on top of the green chenille stem. Glue the other two smaller petals overlapping the first one, point side down.
When these are dry, bend and curve the foam petals to join both rounded sides together to form the flower. Glue in place and hold until, dry. Use the ½" chenille stem to bend the leaves into shape and twist around the chenille stem.
