  • Copy of song of Sister Rosa by Aaron Nevelle (It is on the CD The Neville

Brothers Gold)

  • Computer with internet access

Description:

Play the song while you and your child listen. Discuss the events of Rosa Park's life that are mentioned in the song. Give your child some background information on the differences in the way whites and blacks were treated during that time period of America's history.

Sing the song together, and talk about why the Negro community boycotted public transportation. Explain the nonviolence of this action, and how it eventually resulted in desegregation.

Together find a picture of Rosa Parks online. (Use the Creative Commons Search feature in Flickr to do a search for images of Rosa Parks. Be sure to use proper citation for the image.
