Find a Unique Personality

Before everything else, you must take the time to develop your inner clown. You must develop your own unique idenitification and your own way of connecting with your audience. Find a unique personality inside you that will set apart your alter ego from every other clown out there. This will give you a distinctive flair to your act. Once you can put a smile on people's faces, then you're definitely on the right track. Just remember that the traits you choose now will determine what type of makeup you'll perform in, as well as what costume you will be wearing.

If you're still struggling for a character's approach don't give up hope, thinking that maybe the clowning business isn't for you. One thing that you can do is to make a list of your favorite cartoon characters or comedy figures in movies or in television.
