Learning the English Language
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University's residential campus features programs designed to
prepare international students to fulfill language proficiency
requirements and succeed in their university studies.
Many international students at the Daytona Beach, Florida, campus
attend the Embry-Riddle Language Institute (ERLI). ERLI offers an intensive English program that
prepares students for full-time university studies during regular
academic semesters in addition to various short-term English
language programs. Many international students enroll in
ERLI to prepare for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).
Conditional admission to Embry-Riddle is available to ERLI students who qualify.

Questions and Answers
How are international
admissions' decisions made?
Admission decisions are based on an applicant's academic
credentials and proficiency in English. For an applicant who
requires a student visa, the ability to finance his or her
education at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is also
considered. If a student is academically admissible to a degree
program, the admissions committee then determines how academically
strong the student is compared to other applicants.
Is the Scholastic Assessment Test or the American College
Test required for freshman admission?
No, it is not required for international students; however, it is
highly recommended that all freshman applicants take the
examination. High scores will enhance the student's chance of
admission. Also, an SAT or ACT score is required to be considered for the
Embry-Riddle Scholarship Program.
Do I need to take the GMAT?
All applicants to the MBA program at
Embry-Riddle must submit GMAT scores
(Graduate Management Admission Test) to the Office of International
and Graduate Admissions. Requirement is waived only if student
holds another graduate level degree.
Do I have to take the TOEFL?
There are some cases in which the TOEFL
exam will be waived. They include:
1. The student attended an American or International school for a
minimum of two years where the primary language of instruction is
English.
2. The student attended a U.S. high school and took mainstream
English courses for two years.
3. The student attended secondary school for two years in a country
where English is the primary language and used for all
instruction.
4. The student attended a U.S. college or university for at least
two years - depending on the initial language requirements for that
school.
5. The student completed an IB (International Baccalaureate)
English course of one year in length.
6. Other tests of English language will be accepted if they are
national or international exams.
7. The student has recommendation from Embry-Riddle's Language
Institute.
I am an F-1 student and want to work on the campus. Is this
okay?
