How to: Courses

Courses allow instructors to create a structured curriculum of content using the features LearnHub offers: Lesson Pages, Videos, Presentations, Tests, Discussions, and Debates. By using access restrictions instructors are in control of who enrolls and can decide to offer a free course, or set a cost per student.

As a student, you have access to a marketplace of professional quality courses in a multitude of topics.
Watch the Courses (Coming Soon) video for a quick tutorial on creating and enrolling in courses.

Creating your own Course:
What are the benefits of running a course over a community?

Both a community and a course offer much to any LearnHub member.

  • Courses are a bundle of content packaged for enrolling students
  • You can charge a fee for your course or offer it for free
  • You can set restrictions for enrolling students

How do I create my own course?

Creating a course takes only a few, easy steps:

  • Sign in to LearnHub or Create an Account
  • Click the Course tab found in your personal Workspace
  • Click the "Create A Course" button to begin
  • Title and add a detailed description about your course offering
  • Upload a course photo if you choose
  • Share it in relating Communities
  • Click the "Create Course" button to finish

Where will my course show up for others to see?

Your course will appear in the Marketplace. When you publish your course using the "Share in Communities" widget, you can select as many communities as you want to feature your course in. The course will primarily be featured within those community marketplaces but is also search-able from anywhere on LearnHub.

How do I invite others to my course?

You can invite both LearnHub contacts as well as outside friends directly to your course. You can do this in the "Edit Course" page. Simply check off the users you want to invite in the "Invite Your Contacts" widget, and or write your friends e-mails in the "Invite Non-LearnHubbers" widget.

How do I edit my course?

When viewing the main course page, you will find the "Edit Course" button above the course image.

How do I upload title image?

Below the default green book image in the course editor, you will see an "Upload Photo" link. A browse box will appear which allows you to upload an image from your desktop.

Do I have to upload an image?

No, but it's highly recommended.

Can I use an online image (ex. from Flickster)?

While you can't attach the image directly from an online source, you may download the image to your desktop and upload it to LearnHub. To do so, simply right click (ctrl+click) on an image and choose 'Save Image As…'.

How do I add content?

You can add content using the "Curriculum Editor" in the Curriculum tab. You can simply drag and drop all your Publicly and Privately published content you've already created through your Workspace.

Do I need to publish my content in order to add it to a course?

Yes. If you wish to keep your content private from the general public, simply publish it using the "Private Sharing" widget. If you don't mind it being published to the public, you can still add it in your course. To do so, choose the "Public Sharing" option. These can be found in any of the features editor.

How much can I charge for my course?

This is completely up to you. You can offer your course for free (0), or as much as you want.

What payment system does LearnHub use?

In order to receive a payment, you must own a Paypal account.

What are the different Scheduling Types?

There are three schedule types you can choose for your course:
Open; students can enroll at any time and stay enrolled for as long as the person chooses.
Scheduled; students must enroll before the course start date. They only have access for as long as the course is running. The instructor must set a start and end date.
Rolling; students can enroll at any time but are limited to a set number of days they may have access to the course content. The instructor sets how many days the course is available for.

Can I limit the number of students in my course?

Yes. Simply edit your course and set the Student Limit to whatever you wish.
By default, the student limit is unlimited-in order to change it back from a limited number of students to unlimited, simply change the number to 0 (zero).

Can I create Discussions and Debates in a course?

Yes. On the main page of the course, you have the ability to create both Discussions and Debates that can only be accessed by enrolled members.
Students also have the ability to create discussions and debates.

Hey Adam, under the “How do I add content?” section you might want to make it clear that members first have to create lessons in the Lessons page before the lessons show up under Curriculum. It took me about 20 minutes to figure that out.

My course is ready to be published. How do I connect Paypal to the course so that students can enroll, pay, and take the course?

You can rate lessons and tests – i.e. the curriculum of a course. As for awarding an overall rating, that feature is not available at the moment.

I see adding video files, but I would like to add mp3 audio files to my course. Is there any way to do that?

Congratulation for the whole service. I ‘ve a question about publishing lessons/course. You said: “If you wish to keep your content private … publish it using the “Private Sharing” widget. If you don’t mind it being published to the public, you can still add it in your course. To do so, choose the “Public Sharing” option. These can be found in any of the features editor.”. It seems that only if I use the publich sharing option that content can be added to a course of mine… Is that right? or In case I use the “Private Sharing” option can that content be added to a specific course of mine?

I have launched a course for one hour on the coming Saturday the 16th MAY. How do I fix the time for the course?

As members may join, how do I get to interact with them? In other words, how do I lecture and how will they listen I conduct my own online classes through Skype. Should I call them to Skype? Or do have your own platform

Banks in India do not permit an auto debit by Pay pal for authentication. Pay pal does not seem to have any other means of account authentication. Hence I am unable to transfer funds to India though Paypal. Do you have an Indian Pay site for facilitating international fund transfer

    Dear Daagh,

Right now if you are planning to conduct an online class through skype you must call the members to skype. Also, right now payments can be made only through paypal and I think that if you have a premier account on paypal, users can pay your through their credit cards. Also, paypal allows you to transfer funds from pay pal account to Indian banks.
