What Causes Ovarian Cysts?
An ovarian cyst appears when a sac in the ovary is filled with
fluids. This can be caused by the inability of the ovary to release
the maturing egg within it due to the lack of leutnizing hormones
or the buildup of fluid within the follicle that the egg has been
released from. Most ovarian cysts are usually benign and may occur
each month without any signs and may disappear on their own without
any signs as well. But there are also some cases where ovarian
cysts can cause problems.
What Are the Symptoms?
Some of the symptoms of ovarian cysts include pressure or pain in
the abdominal region, breast tenderness, nausea or vomiting,
painful menstruation, pain during intercourse, urine problems,
bowel problems, weight gain, fatigue, infertility and an increased
level of growth in facial and body hair. There are also some
symptoms that may be worse than mentioned, these kinds of symtpoms
may require immediate medical attention. It is also best to consult
a physician when you feel that these symptoms are starting to
manifest.
Ovarian Cyst Diagnosis
Ovarian cysts can be diagnosed with a pelvic exam or through
ultrasound. Pelvic exams are routine examinations that allow
physicians to feel for masses within the vagina. Ultrasounds can be
done through trans-abdominal ultrasound and through trans-vaginal
ultrasound. In some cases, some patients are given a waiting
treatment, where the cyst is monitored over a few months period of
time through ultrasound if they are reduced in size or if they
dissolve on their own.
Ovarian Cyst Treatments
To treat ovarian cysts, there is a form of surgery called
oophorectomy, this procedure is performed to remove the cysts by
removing one or both ovaries. This procedure can permanently alter
a woman's body since it will alter the production of hormones in a
woman's body so this is usually done as a last resort treatment.
Aside from this, medical treament is very limited to cure ovarian
cysts. This is one of the reasons why a lot women are turning to
natural treatments that can be both healing and preventive. Natural
treatments may include the intake of antioxidant supplements like
zinc, black currant oil, borage oil, vitamins E, A and C and
evening primrose oil. Herbs like false unicorn root and blue cohosh
can also be used for treatment. Natural pills, powders and liquids
that contain plant, animal and mineral extracts are also used as
homeopathic treatments.
