Introduction Lady Irwin College has provided higher education for generations of women. Founded in 1932 with a strength of 11 students and now well into its eight decade, the college has now over 900 students on its records every year. From the initial teaching of a Certificate Course in Home Science, the courses offered have multiplied, keeping in tune with the spirit of the times, and the changing trends in higher education. Spread over a large campus of 16.5 acres of land, the College has highly qualified teaching faculty, many of who have received national and international recognition for their teaching, research and publications. Courts for tennis, badminton, basket ball, volley ball, and areas for athletics are part of the College Campus. In the green surroundings stands the Student Hostel which houses about 240 students. |

Facilities The College has well equipped laboratories and classrooms and a library with about 45,000 books and periodicals. On its campus the College houses two programmes for the care and education of young children as well as children with disability. These programmes also function as laboratory preschools and childcare centres and are an adjunct of the Department of Child Development. |

The library has more than 49,000 + volumes in its collection which includes 2,000+ research work (Dissertations and Thesis) and more than 7,200 bound back files of periodicals. |

The college also has a Computer Resource Centre (CRC) which is
situated in the heart of the college. It has been set up to provide
state-of-the-art computer facilities for the faculty, researchers
and students of the college. The college hostel has a limited number of seats and is available to outstation candidates who have local guardians in Delhi. |

The college has been recognized for excellence in work related to Communication and Extension. The Extension and Communication Cell was set up in 1985 under the Department Research Support (DRS) Scheme of UGC. After successful completion of this scheme the cell has been upgraded and is recognized as Department of Special Assistance (DSA/UGC). |
| Quintessence is the annual festival held here and is an arena where one rocks along with waves of music, love, zeal and passion. It brings together the young minds of various universities and institutions, providing them with a platform to express their talents in the best possible way. |

The college has a Students Association of which all students are members. The association promotes active co-operation among members of the community and fosters interest in all phases of college activities. It aims at maintaining order and decorum in the student body and providing opportunities for developing leadership skills and talents. |
| Apart from the Annual Cultural week (Quintessence), the association organizes Freshers' welcome party, First year representative elections, Independence Day, Teachers' Day and Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. |

| One General Body meeting is held per term, providing a platform for interaction between the students and the college administration. Various Societies like the Debating, Dramatics, Fashion Show, Literary & Fine Arts, Music & Dance and the Sports Society also exist which keep the students involved throughout the year. |

Alumni Graduates of Lady Irwin College occupy top executive position in national organizations such as the Planning Commission and in international organizations like UNDP. Many are Deans of colleges, eminent teachers and principals of schools. Numerous alumnae have been successful in the fields of art, fashion, literature and as entrepreneurs in a remarkable variety of businesses, in India and abroad. Few famous people from this institute are fashion designer Ritu Kumar, freedom fighter Kamladevi Chattopadhyay and ex-Miss India Manpreet Brar. |

Data Professionally, the education of the student is not complete at Lady Irwin College until she is helped to be professionally placed in a position of her choice. Towards this end the college organizes placement meets periodically. All P.G.departments do their placements and boast of many illustrious alumni. |
