Introduction
to College
St. Stephen's College
is a coeducational institution of higher learning. It has students
and teachers from all communities and from all parts of India, and
some from abroad. The college was founded on 1 February 1881, by
the Cambridge Brotherhood, an Anglican mission from Westcott House,
Cambridge, England. The college admits both undergraduates and
post-graduates, and awards degrees under the purview of the
University of Delhi. St. Stephen's is widely recognized as one of
India's leading institutions in the liberal arts and the sciences.
This College of Delhi University focuses on the development of
integrated personality of the students and provides ample
facilities for it. It claims itself to be a religious foundation
that draws inspiration from life and teaching of Jesus Christ. The
College motto is Ad Dei Gloriam, the Latin for To the Glory of
God.
Location
This college is located in University Enclave on the campus of the University of Delhi
Facilities
The college has a large and attractive campus, designed by the distinguished architect Walter Sykes George, and completed in 1941. In addition to the academic buildings, there is a library containing over ninety thousand books. The college playing fields are located between Kashmiri Gate and Mori Gate in Old Delhi; there are facilities for playing tennis, basketball and soccer on the college campus itself. The Francis Monk gymnasium, the Ladies Common Room, and the Junior Common Room provide facilities for indoor sports. The college chapel is open to all members for worship and meditation. The college has six residence blocks which allow around 300 men and over 100 women to reside on the premises

The popular extracurricular societies and clubs cover areas like debating, dramatics, hiking, film, social service, photography, quizzing and astronomy. Societies, such as the Planning Forum, History Society, Gandhi Study Circle, Informal Discussion Group also organize "talks" with eminent personalities on various topical issues. Annual Festivals like Harmony, Integration, Crosswinds and Rajpal Memorial Inter-College One-Act Play Competition add to the vibrant atmosphere on campus and keep students engaged. Courses Offered
The various Departments and Courses of St. Stephens College are as follows:
- The Chemistry Department offers three-year degree programme in B.Sc (hons), B.Sc. (G) Chemistry and two-year programme in Msc. Chemistry
- The Department of Computer Science offers three-year degree programmes in B.Sc (G) with Computer Science
- The Economics Department offers three-year degree programmes in B.A (hons) Economics and two year programme in M.A Economics.
- The English Department admits students for three year B.A. (hons) and two year M.A. programme.
- The History and Political Science department offers three-year degree programmes in B.A (hons) history, and two-year degree programme in M.A. History
- The Department of Mathematics operates a center for Mathematical Sciences and offers three-year degree programme in B.A (hons) Mathematics
- The Physics Department in St Stephens College offers quality education in Bsc. and Msc. level
- The Sanskrit and Hindi Department offers three-year degree programme that leads to B.A. (hons) in Sanskrit. In addition to all these departments the college also has the department of philosophy, department of Urdu and Persian and also School of Music.
Placements
The Placements at St. Stephen's College are handled by the Campus Placement Cell (CPC). It is a student-run society and organizes the entire recruitment procedure from calling up the companies to hosting placement talks to the recruitment procedure.
Above 45 companies recruited from their campus in 2007-08. The number of job offers made on campus exceeded 150 last year. The average salary offered was Rs. 4.5 lakhs per annum. The highest compensation offered was Rs. 15 lakhs per annum. Last year the CPC had 3 companies offering in the range of INR 10-15 lakhs, 5 in the range of INR 5-10 lakhs and 13 others in the range of INR 3-5 lakhs.
