On 26th April over 10 Lacs students appeared for AIEEE 2009 Paper, which was held all across the country. There was a major change in the pattern of the paper, which surprised many students and according to them this year Math Question paper was the toughest. This year No.of questions also decreased from 35 to 30 per section as compared to 2008.

Total Marks: 432
Total Questions: 90
(Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry 30 - Questions Each)

There were 24 questions of 4 marks each and 6 questions of 8 mark each. The 8 mark questions had -2 marks for incorrect answer while the 4 mark questions had -1.

Unless you have a SC/ST quota of reservation you have no chance of getting a biotech seat in NITs.

  For these marks you can expect a rank between 1000-5000 and you definitely stand a chance for ECE in NIT Trichy. In 2007, the rank range is 1000-6000 for this college.

  You can expect a rank in the range of 30,000-40,000. You can expect a seat in NIT Kurukshetra in Civil or Industrial Engineering. In the OBC category there were around 320 students in the rank range of 200-60,000 last year. So this year also the number should remain more or less the same.

Last year in most of the NITs, the SC category is closed at rank 1 lakh and also for students with above 50,000 most of the top branches are not available.

i had a doubt ….one of my frend says tat last year a guy 4m general category wid 120 marks( around 38% of total marks) got in nit kurushetra in civil eng ( not in 1st counsellin)....his expected rank as displayed by diff institutes n groups was somethin btn 40,000 to 50,000…....is it possible???? should i wait 4 2nd n 3rd counsellin 4 gettin into a good coll????? do reply and thanks 4 answerin my previous doubt

  Hi,
  
  The seats in the NITs shall be filled up with following criteria:
  
  (i) 50% of the seats in an NIT shall be filled by the eligible candidates who have passed +2 examination from the State in which the NIT is situated. For example, in NIT Warangal 50% seats shall be filled by the eligible candidates who have passed their +2 examination from Andhra Pradesh.
  
  (ii) Admission in NITs for rest 50% seats would be on All India Merit basis. For these seats candidates would be admitted from amongst All India rank holders in AIEEE.
  
  So you must keep your fingers crossed…

  NIT, Warrangal is out of scope. But admission to other NITs depend upon the state to which you belong. If you belong to Haryana, you should keep your finger crossed as the closing ranks for HS category in this college are around 5900(CSE) and 6990 (ECE). Similar is the case with NIT, Tirchy.
  
  So please let me know your state and I will come up with more accurate information

  Coming to NIT Nagpur the closing rank as per your state code and reservation category is 3442. So you are no where close to this. Do you have other test scores like JEE and BITSAT?

  Your chances of getting into NITs are definitely very low. In fact if you consider branches like CSE and ECE you do not have any chances. Last year, for NIT Allahabad the closing rank of the local student is 13775 and this is for the Bio-Tech stream. So, as per last year’s data you do not stand any chance.

m a delhi student n belong to general category my all india rank in gen category is 30272 and overall rank is 39606. going by last years opening and closing ranks provided by nit trichy site (www.nitt.edu/home/academics/admissions/btech/airank/ ) it closed at arnd 22k for chemical and cilvil so is dere any hope in lower ranked nits. if nt wat r d other gud clgs i cud get thru in civil or chemical

  The closing rank specified for NIT, Trichy must be the local student rank. For non local students, last year the admission into NIT Trichy is closed at rank close to 10,000. For your rank there is no chance to get into NITs.

  It’s a bit difficult to get the branch of your choice. What do you have in mind? I think you should go by traditional data – last year’s statistics would help you decide which ones to start filling your form with.
  
  Just a personal suggestion – go for a good college. In the long run, the benefits of a good college outweigh that of a good branch.

  You have chances to get into NIT Kurukshetra, Silchar and Raipur but the top branches seems to be out of scope. As suggested by Avinash, I personally feel that you should opt for a good college. All the best

  Last year for NIT, Nagpur closing rank of Civil is around 14000 and for Metallurgy it is close to 17000. So there’s no scope for you to get into NIT, Nagpur

sir, I am in a dilemma as i have been calleed for counceling at IISER.I cannot make-up my mind as to whether i should join an IISER or a NIT.I know that IISER offers research in fields of PCMB but can u plz clarify the differnce between research and engneering?What will be the outcome when i join either IISEr or NIT??(Net outcome in the sense that what will be the jobs,credits,comparative advantages and chances to study abroad) I have an aptittude for aeronatics and aerospace eng. and I have applied at IISt.But the chances of securing a suitable field seems weak as,I have 2600 candidates in the front for a mere 100 seats. Can u tell me which Institute will help me if I want to do MS abroad in the mentioned field?? I will be highly obliged if i recieve ur valuable expertise in this regard…. thank you!

  hi,
  
  research will basically mean that you’ll pursue studies like the others, but there will be greater emphasis on doing stuff like project work;
  
  engineering will prepare you froma different perspective and the amount of research oriented training will perhaps be lesser;
  
  if you want to do research in aerospace engg., then you could try some of the iits – they are a good destination in india;
  
  also, you could maybe do a project in one of the iits and then go abroad for your ms;

  You can get into the top NITs like Trichy, Warrangal and Suratkal but the top branches are out of scope. Also, for Mech stream in these colleges you have to keep your fingers crossed. IF you consider other NITs, you have definite chance to get into your desired branch.
  
  Coming to BITSAT, you have definite chances to get into Pilani Campus but again the top three branches may not be available.

hi i am frm chatissgarh i appeared in aieee 2009 and i got only 33 marks i known its very bad but i just want to know that can igot call letter frm aieee counseling or not pls tell me i am very confused.My all india rank- overall-589884 and category-362346 also my state rank – overall-9014 and category-4982 pls tell me can i suggest that for couseling.
