Critical Reasoning

Researchers believe that we will ultimately be able to explain all 'psychic' phenomena. Achieving this goal requires knowledge of how mental images are 'sent' and 'received' over distance and how senders and receivers interact at a biological level. At present, there is a substantial amount of fundamental knowledge about receiving images and sending images. Thus, as researchers claim, psychic phenomena will soon be explainable. Which one of the following indicates an error in the reasons in the passage?

(A) The conclusion contradicts researchers.
(B) The passage fails to describe what is currently known about senders and receivers.
(C) The passage does not indicate that any knowledge has been achieved about how senders and receivers interact at a biological level.
(D) The argument does not indicate whether this information will be useful.
(E) The passage is not specific about what psychic phenomena are being researched

Problem Solving

A 240 gallons solution contains milk and water in the ratio 5:4. How many gallons of water must be added so that the ratio of milk and water in the resulting solution is 4:5?

A. 48
B. 54
C. 50
D. 58
E. 60

So,folks here are the correct answers

Critical Reasoning
The correct answer is C.

Two conditions are introduced as necessary for achieving the goal of explaining psychic phenomena:

1) how mental images are sent and received over distance
2) how senders and receivers interact at a biological level

The first is partially fulfilled. The passage states that we know a substantial amount about receiving images and sending images. However, it does not mention anything about how senders and receivers interact. Hence the passage does not meet the very conditions it requires - this is an error in reasoning. Hence the answer is C*.

Problem Solving
The correct answer is E.

Let X be the number of gallons of water added so that the ration of milk and water changes to 4:5 from 5:4.
Amount of milk in the initial solution= 5/9×240 gallons
Amount of milk in the final solution= 4/9×(240+X)gallons
Since there is no change in the content of the milk we have
5/9×240=4/9×(240+X)
⇒5/9×240-4/9×240=4/9×X
i.e. X = 60 gallons
Hence, option (E).

    For CR : C and For PE : E

    Suppose x is amount of water added in soultion 240 so equations forms like this: x / ( x + 240 ) = 5 / 9 .. givin x = 300 so 60 more hence fore E is ans…

    240 * (5/9) / (240 * (4/9) + x) = 4/5

    x = 60

CR: (C) understanding = knowledge of send/receive + of biological interaction. only send/receive understood … bio interaction info uncertain

PS: (E): Per every gallon, 5/9th is milk, 4/9th is water.

    new ratio per gallon >

    (5/9) / (4/9 + x) = 4/5

x = 1/4th gallon per gallon, or 60 gallons extra water per 240 gallons
