The Rich Text Editor is a
lesson page creation tool that emulates popular Word Processors. If
you've ever used programs such as Microsoft Word,
you won't have any trouble creating top of the line lesson page
content.
Using the Editor to Create a Lesson Page:

You can start a new lesson page by following these few easy steps:

Q. What is the Textile Editor?
|
There are two types of lesson editors: the Rich Text Editor and the Textile Editor. The Textile editor is the advanced "pro" editor that uses HTML and Textile coding. If you've had previous experience writing HTML you might find the Textile Editor more to your liking. If you wish to learn more about the advanced editor, read the How to: Textile Editor. |
Q. How do I switch between the Rich Text Editor and the Textile Editor?

You can switch between the the Rich Text Editor and the Textile Editor by heading to the Account settings in your personal Workspace. You will find the option to switch right on the main section. ![]() |
Q. Can I copy and paste my lesson from another source such as a word document or a website?
|
Yes. If you prefer to create your lesson using a 3rd party program you may copy and paste your text to LearnHubs editor. The Rich Text editor recognizes most formatting, your lesson should look exactly as you've written it the other program. Please note, some more advanced formatting may not carry over. If this happens, simply highlight the text and format it within the Rich Text Editor. Please also note that if you copy and paste from a website, images WILL copy over. If you copy and paste from a word processor, images will NOT copy over. |
Q. Can I add additional formatting after I've copied my text over?

Of course. All text maybe formatted once placed into the Rich Text Editor. If you wish to remove all formatting from a string of text, you can use the "Reset Formatting" button under the Font Styles. |
Q. How do I use the Rich Text formatting tools found at the top of the editor?

The Rich Text Editor offers a wide variety of formatting tools that are easy to use. All you need to do is highlight the text you wish to format and click one of the formatting buttons: ![]() Here is a breakdown of each tool and it's use: |

The first two buttons will control indenting and outdenting. While the following two buttons will allow you to create bullet and number listings. |

The chain-link button will allow you to add a URL link address to your text while the second button allows you to insert a picture from a URL address. |

The Paragraph Style button allows you to choose between a set of pre-determined text formats including the default "normal" and a variety of Headers. |
Q. If I start a lesson page in the Rich Text Editor, can I convert it to the Textile Editor?
|
Unfortunately no, you can only create a lesson under one specific editor. Once you create a lesson page, it will always use that editor. If you wish to switch your lesson to a different editor, you must first create a new lesson under your desired editor followed by copying the old lesson text to the new lesson. |
Q. How do I upload an image from my desktop?
You can upload as many images as you wish using the "Photos" widget found to the left of the editor. To upload and place the image, please follow these steps:
To delete the image, simply click the red x above the "insert" text. |
Q. How do I upload an image from the web?
You can use any image you find on the internet
(as long as you own it or it falls under Creative Commons) and link it
from the website into the editor.

Q. Can I edit my photo in the editor?
Yes. You can simply double click on any image
after it has been placed within the editor. A edit box will pop up
just below the image. |
Q. Can I make Tables and Equations in the Rich Text Editor?

No. Both Tables and Equations are an advanced feature that require the Textile Editor. If you wish to create a lesson with these features, please learn how by reading the How to: Textile Editor lesson. |
Q. How do I attach a reference PDF to my lesson page?
Underneath the Photos widget is the
Reference Material (PDF) widget, which allows you
to browse and upload any PDF file from
your desktop. |
Publishing your Lesson Page:
Q. How do I publish my lesson Publicly?

You can find the Publishing
widget near the top of the lesson editor underneath the
'Page Information' widget. The default setting is automatically set
to 'No, not yet'. |
Q. How do I publish my lesson Privately?
|
You can select the "Privately, in one or more courses" option in the Publishing Widget in order to publish your lesson page to a course. When you publish a lesson this way, no one other than the members enrolled in your course will be eligible to view your lesson. It will not show up in your Workspace to anyone but you. If a member leaves your course, it will again be private to that user. |
Q. Can I un-publish my lesson after I've published it already?

Yes, simply edit your lesson page and select the 'No, not yet' option in the Publishing Widget and your course will become unpublished and not viewable in any community, course, or your personal workspace. |
Q. What Creative Commons License should I choose?
|
There is a lot to consider when choosing a
Creative Commons license. Do you want to share your lesson so
others many use it and edit it? Or do you wish only to have it
viewed on LearnHub? |
Editing your
Lesson Page:
Q. How do I edit my lesson page?

There are two ways you can edit your lesson page. The first by clicking the 'edit' text next to the lesson you wish to edit (in your Workspace lesson listings). The other is by click the 'Edit Your Lesson Page' button found to the top right of your lesson page. ![]() |
