Do I have to pay tuition before I arrive in Canada?
New students must pay a deposit of $5000 CAD before being allowed to register for courses. Many Canadian Embassies require proof of payment of tuition before Study Permits will be approved.
Is a TOEFL score required for admission to Capilano College?
No, but without a TOEFL (or IELTS) score a student can study only ESL. Please refer to Becoming a Student
Can I get my Study Permit in Canada?
No, it is not possible to obtain a Study Permit while in Canada, nor is it possible to exchange a Visitor's Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) for a Study Permit. The application must be made from outside Canada.
When do courses start?
Our semesters start in September, January and May.
Is financial aid available for international students?
No, students who require financial assistance to attend Capilano College must arrange this assistance before arrival in Canada. Student loans are only available to Canadian Students. International students may apply for scholarships, based on their grade point average (GPA), after their first term.
Do I need to have medical insurance?
Yes, it is required by law.
Where can I live?
We do not have residences at Capilano College, students either stay with a homestay family, or rent accommodation off campus.
Can I work while I study in Canada?
The Off-Campus Work Permit allows students to work up to 20 hours per week during the school year (September to April) and full time during school breaks. The basic rules of eligibility are: 1. student must have studied six months in an academic program (i.e. non-ESL study); 2. students must be full-time or registered in at least three courses; and, 3. students must have and maintain a GPA of 2.0.
