In Football, anytime you have the chance to score, you MUST. There is no worst feeling that missing the opportunity. The importance of a goal is crucial and those teams that miss, often falter as a result. In any given game you might get one good look at the goal and must seize that light. Football is a cruel sport and if you are not ready to contribute, get out of the way...

A great example of this lesson occured yesterday when Fernando Torres flew passed the defender and scored over the goalkeeper instantly. There was little time for Torres to react and place forth the shot, he flicked the ball perfectly and that was the difference. At such times, the player has a small chance to score and if he takes advantage of the scenario, good things will result. Torres, the fine striker he is, made sure that he delivered for his side. The goal was the difference in the game.

Just something to keep in mind when watching a game. Look at the finishes of goals by players in various leagues. The talent and caliber of player will be exhibited by the type of goals scored.

I think one of the greatest goals scored in the past few years has to be Lionel Messi’s run through the entire opposing Getafe team in La Liga action. You can see the famous goal on YouTube here

Of course this brought on many comparisons to Diego Maradona’s thrilling runs. Messi has to be one of the most exciting players to watch in the game today in my opinion.
