CBC - Judging Criteria

Photo 11181
As evident, your community will be judged on what you have created and where you have led it over the course of the contest. While evaluating you, the judging panel will have a look at the following heads:
  • Lessons/Pages
  • Tests/Quizzes
  • Discussions and Debates
  • Adverse Events (the lesser the number, the better)
  • Trivia
  • Courses

In more detail:
  • Lessons/Pages: Your lessons will be graded on the following criteria -
    • How broad is the appeal of the lesson?
    • How relevant is the content?
    • How original is the content? Is it free from plagiarism?
    • Is the language clear/lucid?
    • Have you employed pictures/videos/presentations to make the topic more interesting?
    • Does the lesson contain a creative/innovative means of describing the topic at hand?
    • Is the focus of the lesson correct? Does the content do justice to the topic?
  • Tests/Quizzes: Your tests and quizzes are tools for you to guage how people are able to grasp your topic. Apart from testing the efficacy of your content, quizzes are a great way to keep the grey cells active. Your quizzes/tests will be evaluated on the following criteria:
    • Are the questions original?
    • Do the questions test the concept(s) discussed on the lesson?
    • Do the answers enhance understanding?
  • Discussions: Discussions are the life of a community - more often than not, the truest measure of the activity in a community is the existing level of discussion in it.
    • Are valid points being raised in the discussions?
    • How relevant are the discussions? Do they do justice to the content and the scope of the community?
    • Are all queries raised by users addressed on the discussion boards?
Photo 10971
  • Debates: Debates are not a product of misunderstanding - rather they are indicative an opportunity to grasp greater insights! A debate in your community is perhaps the opportunity for you to guage how people have grasped your content and whether or not your vision has been fulfilled.
    • Are the debates being effectively moderated?
    • Are the opposing parties being drawn to the scope of the debate effectively?
    • Of all the debates that are taking place, how many are relevant?
  • Trivia: Fun and engaging - not only for those who play the gamePhoto 11179, but also for those who craft them in the first place! Trivia in your community will be evaluated on the following heads
  • Apart from the community owner, what proportion of users are contributing to it?
  • Quality of questions -
    • Does the trivia generate enough interest in the content of the community?
    • Does the trivia support or supplement the learning achieved via the content?
  • Rating by users: Your trivia questions will be rated by users from across the globe. This will also be a criteria, since it directly informs us of user perception.
  • Adverse Events: Online communities and networks are vulnerable to events of misuse by users. Such events are labeled as adverse events and detailed below:
    • Copyright Infringement -
      • Is the content created on the community page the author's original work or has it been reproduced from another source?
      • In case a variety of sources have been used to compile the information - then does the author quote the sources? Does the author clearly mention his contribution - apart from gathering information, i.e. does the author combine information from different sources and use his/her own skills to create something new?
    • Posting information that hurts other user's sensitivities
      • Is the content or the nature of posts in discussions/debates, abusive or characterised by slander?
      • Is the tone of posts inappropriate?
    • Posting pornographic or other abusive content
    • Any other form of content that the organizing team deems inappropriate in nature
  • Courses: Courses are your ventures to reach out to people and share your knowledge with them. You are free to structure your courses, in terms of both content and the scope thereof. A list of topics that will be considered while evaluating courses is -
    • Number of students enrolled in the course
    • Course contents
    • Course content and its relevance to the scope of the course
      • Course material - how easy to read/understand is it?
      • Tests - how effectively do the tests guage a users learning?

    I have few questions.

    • How will I get to know that my community is getting judged or not?

    • For how long this judging thing will continue(when can we expect results)?

    • How will I get to know where I stand? (Any weekly status of community or something)

    Regards

    Hi Poshmokey/Gaurav,

Once it kicks off, CBC would go on for around 3 months; also, way before it starts, you’d receive a message about it so that you can prepare accordingly

As for your community being judged – you’ll have to send in your registration info by email

Yes, there will be a weekly tally of your community. Please check the lesson on weekly stats!

    Cheers, Avinash

    when will it start?

who will judge the winners? chandra, u put a trivia question about judges. after my first comment, u changed the answer option for judges from “undisclosed group of learn hub members” to “selected community leaders”. on my second detailed comment, u removed the question itself. this behaviour puts credibility of the system and u people to serious question as to its transparency and fairness. please explain why u removed your trivia question from the system. i guess u were scared to make known my detailed comments highlighting ur inefficiencies and arbitrary attitude to learnhubbers. if u believe by following such escapist and unethical tactics, u can make a fool of public, u don’t deserve to be there.

    Hi kravi,

The trivia questions were meant to clarify an issue and not cloud it.

I agree that the trivia questions were unclear – therefore they needed to be corrected. The lessons are being updated as of now and they will have information on the event.

As for the fairness of the event – once the guidelines are out in their final form, you can judge for yourself.

    Cheers, Avinash

    chandra,

why in the first place did u place a trivia question on a subject u were urself not clear about, changing answer options twice, and then removing the question itself? what does this show? i am not trying to prove a point against u but it all speaks poor about the whole process and system which is yet to take off. if my comments were not the right place to be put in comments space of trivia, can u restore my comments (cut/copy and paste should be easier for u) from trivia question (which u have removed) into this space for the benefit of all learnhubbers? thanks in anticipation.

    hi kravi,

You commented on a trivia question – which was when I realized that my draft was published. I also realized that a trivia question is not appropriate for such information. Hence, I had to delete them. It also emphasized the need for updates on existing lessons in the CBC community.

As of now, lessons on judging have been updated – you may have a look at them.

As for your queries posted on the trivia question -

Who decides key issues: The Oragnizers of CBC (Antaragni – IIT Kanpur’s cultural festival and LearnHub are the organizers)

What is the rationale behind having selected community leaders as judges? - This is a competition and like all competitions, this one also needs judges. In this case, the requirement is for someone who – (1) knows how to manage a community and (2) can judge a community based on rules created by the organizers

When will we come to know who the judges are? - The organizers should be able to announce more details on this before the contest starts

Does the opinion of 20k LearnHubbers not matter? - It matters and the judging process takes care of that – for more details, visit the lesson on judging, where you will find the required information.

Thanks for the suggestion on using the top LearnHub authorities as judges and paying them – this has been conveyed to the organizers. In case you have any further suggestions or queries, please use debates and discussions in the CBC community for voicing them.

    Hope this helps!
