PHOBIA
Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders. Which in simple words can be explained as a situation - When the fear is beyond one's control and sufferer is called phobiac.
It is generally accepted that phobias arise from a combination of external events and internal predispositions.
There are some 550 phobias that are listed in medical practitioner's guide.Let's discuss some of them.
Aerophobia
Aerophobia: An abnormal and persistent fear of aeroplanes and flying. This is also known as Pterophobia.
Sufferers experience severe anxiety even though they usually realize that the flying does not pose a threat commensurate with their fear.
Aerophobia also means an irrational fear of fresh air or drafts of air.
Actually this word is derived from the Greek words:
"aero-"(air or gas)+"phobos"(fear) = fear of air.
Zoophobia
Zoophobia or animal phobia is the fear of animals and should not be confused with sensible fear of dangerous or threatening animals, such as the fear of wild bears or venomous snakes.
Zoophobia may have one of two closely related meanings: a generic term for the class of specific phobias to particular animals or simply disliking any non-human.
Examples of specific zoophobias would be:-
Entomophobias - also known as insectophobia. This condition might be referred to as the "fear of insects or bugs".
Commonly Entomophobias refer to a particular case of specific phobias, all of which have basically the same causes (differing mostly in the source of phobia) and similar choices of treatments.
Arachnophobia: fear of spiders
Arachnophobia has its roots in Greek
arachne (spider) + phobia (fear).
This is among the most common phobia of all phobias that means fear of spiders.Around 50 per of women and 10 per of men have mild arachnophobia or worse.
People with arachnophobia tend to feel uneasy in any area they believe could harbor spiders or that has visible signs of their presence, such as webs.
This particular phobia is another common phobia and a bit conflicting too. This is due to the fact that snakes are considered threatening and fear from life threatening episodes aren't considered as phobia.
Ophidiophobia:Ophidiophobia or Ophiophobia refers to the fear of snakes.
The word comes from the Greek words "Ophis" (Snakes) + "Phobia" (Fear) meaning fear of snakes.
Fear of snakes is sometimes called by a more general term, Herpetophobia - fear of reptiles.
Apiphobia is one of zoophobias that is generally prevalent in young children and may prevent them from taking part in any outdoor activities.
Apiphobia: is another phobia that refers to fear of bees or bee stings. This is one of common fears among people.
Apiphobia has its roots in Latin - Apis(honeybee).
Apiphobia is also known as "Melissophobia" that is derived from Greek Melissa (honeybee)
NOTE: Animal phobia is one of the most frequent psychoneurotic diseases among children and Zoophobia should not be confused with sensible fear of dangerous or threatening animals, such as the fear of wild bears or venomous snakes.
