Energywork is truly a field of study where ancient medicine meets modern science. Today, we are rediscovering what ancients knew thousands of years ago about the body and the world we live in. Modern science, until recently, was interested only in what was visible with the naked eye and observable through a very small lens. Now, quantum physics is discovering what ancient cultures have known for thousands of years-that there is far more in existence that what the naked eye can see. People who practice therapeutic Energywork work with the energy of the body and its surrounding field. They understand that although it cannot be seen with the naked eye, its effects can be experienced and it can be very effective. Modern science, however is interested in validating the otherwise subjective qualities of energywork. We live in a world that needs to validate the subjective qualities of energywork no matter how valid it was thousands of years ago. As a result, bridging the two worlds so that therapeutic energywork can be understood as both an ancient science and yet 21st century modern application is very important. To that end, the basics of quantum physics will be explored in this chapter so that we can show more clearly how energywork is applied within a modern scientific realm.
The Theory of Everything and the Law of One
"Nature shows us only the tail of the lion. But I do not doubt that the lion belongs to it even though he cannot at once reveal himself because of his enormous size." Albert Einstien
Albert Einstein developed the theory of relativity and most physical sciences as we know it were built upon it. Interestingly, the same scientist that embraced Einstein's theory of relativity also dismissed the evolution of his theory in later years. Einstein had begun to find a common unifier of all energy and things. His theory, the unified field theory, ultimately expressed this concept that everything can be narrowed down to one common unit or framework in which everything else is created. It used to be that people thought an atom was the smallest unit of matter. Then, it was realized atoms are made up of even smaller energetic units of particles or waves and they consist of still smaller units called quarks. Finally, quantum physics explains that the smallest unit that exist is a miniscule filament that is more like a string. This theory became known as the string theory. It states that everything existence begins in a state beyond matter as tiny strings of energy. To take this even further, since everything is made up of these strings, everything is made of the same stuff .
The particles, waves and strings are so small that they are considered to exist in a world beyond physical matter and in a world where even time does not exist. That is, they exist in a form other than physical even though they make up everything physical and non physical for that matter. The study of these miniscule units, the world they exist in and how they operate is the science of quantum mechanics. It is through this branch of physics that therapeutic energywork can best be explained. In fact, while the physical body is made up of physical matter, the energetic body, in its more subtle form, is made up more of the tiniest particles studied in quantum physics.
An interesting note is that the tiny energy units seem to have different qualities that are also similar. The particles seem to have wave characteristics and waves seem to have particle characteristics and these particles and waves were interdependent on one another. This idea became expressed as the principle of wave particle duality. This concept is not unlike and in fact identical to what is expressed in the Asian Taoist symbol.
This symbol expresses two different but same forces positive and negative working together in the universe. There is some of the black inside the white and white inside the black indicating that each has within it some of the other. Interestingly, it even as a symbol that looks like a particle and has an aspect that is a wave!
Now lets take this string theory even further. Since we now understand that the tiniest unit is a string, understanding the function of this string becomes the basis of how we understand the human energy field. The strings have two characteristics that determine what they ultimately do. One is that they function in groups. They are never alone. The second characteristic is that they vibrate. These characteristics determine how they will exist in our physical world. This vibration of the string can be likened to the vibration a guitar string would have when plucked. It gives off a sound or a chord. When the exact string is plucked the exact same way, the exact sound is recreated. Likewise, when quarks in the same group vibrate in the same way, it creates a dimension. The world as we know it consist of the same strings vibrating the same way on the most fundamental level. In a sense we are all singing the same tune. It all goes back to one source. These ideas are expressed as the law of one and the law of vibration in ancient medicine. Stated simply, this means that everything is connected to everything else and everything has a vibration.
[Side note: Universe comes from two words : Uni meaning 1 and verse meaning sound. Universe literally means one sound or one song. ]
Look for an example----------fan to demonstrate vibration maybe water ice, steam to demonstrate all stuff the same.

Thought is Energy and has Power
The quantum world is a world of infinite possibility. That means that all of these particles. quarks, and strings are the energetic substances that not only our own world is made up of, but all possible worlds and realities. All possibilities exist at all times. As humans in our physical universe, we tend to only lock in on certain possibilities for our lives. Those possibilities become our thoughts and they too have immense energy. So much energy that they determine what physical reality we will express and be made into matter. In other words, the bridge between the quantum world and physical matter is thought. Our thoughts have a tremendous impact on what happens to our bodies and our world. This law is reflected in the Ancient Egyptian universal law of mentalism. It states that we live in a mental universe and impact our world through our own minds.
Physical laws express that like energy attracts like energy. This means that negative thoughts attract negative people and experiences. Likewise, positive thoughts attract positive people and experiences. The likelihood of the occurrence is determined by how deeply entrenched the thought is and the emotion about the thought that follows. As a result, whatever, we experience physically or emotionally, ultimately comes from our thoughts. We can see how our physical body reacts to our thought by observing when we cry. When we think of something sad, tears well up, our breathing changes, the membranes in our nose begins to swell and our nose run. Although nothing may have happened to us physically, our bodies react anyway to our thoughts on a chemical and cellular level. We will pick up on how thought effects pathology in a later chapter.
The law of cause and effect
Our next set of physical laws are based on Isaac Neutons laws of motion. These are based primarily in just our physical world. There are three Newton laws that concern therapeutic energywork. The first is an object at rest tends to stay at rest and object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by another force. This relates to bodywork in the sense that if you keep doing what you are doing, you will keep getting what you are getting unless something happens to make you decide to change. People act out of habit. Those habits tend to not change unless some other force causes them to. Many times that other force could be dis- ease settling in their body or some other trigger that makes them move in another direction. Healing can only begin when the thing that made you imbalanced ceases or looses influence and another force like a decision to be different ensues.
Our next Newton law is how fast an object moves is dependent on the strength of what moved it and how heavy it is. This law applied to therapeutic energywork means that the likelihood of being healed or getting worse depends on how strong the thought is along with the physical diet that contributes to it. Energy can accumulate and when it does it becomes stronger and has more power. Thoughts are energy and food is energy. Our lifestyle and health is influenced by the available energy and how much of it has accumulated. An example would be that if you ate a balanced diet but your fear of getting sick was stronger, you would experience a physical reaction in the form of weakening. Or, if your diet was not the best, but your thoughts were positive and you were optimistic about your wellbeing, you might avoid or delay the onset of dis-ease. To that end, if your thoughts are negative and your diet is harmful, you can be sure that dis- ease will set in sooner or later. Optimally, positive thoughts along with a healthy lifestyle creates the strongest momentum for healing.
Our last law of healing can also be known as the law of cause and effect or what you reap you sow. It states that for every action, there is a equal and opposite reaction. That is, the energy that we put out returns to us in kind. Applied to therapeutic energywork, we are given certain rules for maintaining healthy lifestyles. We have the freedom to choose and in that freedom, what we choose for ourselves has a direct impact on what we experience. Everything that happens to our body has a cause. If we are experiencing an imbalance, it is because there is an imbalanced cause. While a great deal of western medicine focuses on the symptoms of the body when it is imbalanced, therapeutic energywork addresses the root causes of the imbalances.

The preceding principles provide the structure upon which therapeutic energywork is founded. By understanding these physical laws we are better able to understand and explain the nature of therapeutic energywork. We also can find within these principles the idea that laid the foundation for ancient science thousands of years ago. Buddhist teachings, Egyptian Mystery system, and Asian bodywork practices are all examples of ancient principles in modern science. Therapeutic energywork is an emerging field pregnant with possibilities for the field of healing. We must be mindful of our roles in bringing this kind of healing work forward. Our diligence to its study can bring forth great rewards.
