Pocketbook concerns take precedence over other issues at the present moment. The rising cost of gas is a grave concern. Social issues such as gay marriage, abortion and illegal immigration have taken a back seat. The economic situation and unemployment are the most important concerns in the decision for the presidency among the Latino voters. Latino partisanship in this election is a puzzle where the pieces never seem to quite fall into place. The Latino community represents one of the largest gains of any ethnic group. While the Republican Party was the party of choice for Latinos back in the 2004 election, we have seen a significant sway towards the Democratic Party. In 2004, the Census Bureau predicted that in 2050, Hispanics will compromise roughly 25% of our population. Both campaigns are eager to woo Hispanics and the issues at hand will make Hispanic voters a powerful force in this election.
