Getting Ubuntu

Learning Ubuntu begins with obtaining a copy of Ubuntu in a CD and installing it. You can obtain ubuntu mainly in three ways.

1) Downloading Directly from the Internet

The latest version of ubuntu is available for download from the official website of ubuntu. Please find the download in this page: http://learnhub.com/redirect?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ubuntu.com%2Fgetubuntu%2Fdownload. An alternate way for download is using torrents. This is a more recommended method. You need to have a bittorrent client to use torrent links. The torrent links are given in this page: http://learnhub.com/redirect?u=http%3A%2F%2Ftorrent.ubuntu.com%3A6969%2F. You can find all variations of ubuntu, kubuntu, etc here. You need to choose the version ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso . You may also try other versions of ubuntu here. But this one works with almost all PCs. If your computer do not posses atleast 512 MB ram, please choose the entry ubuntu-8.10-alternetive-i386.iso . The installation for this case is different and i will be explaining both cases differently.
This is The Best way, if possible since you get Ubuntu very fast.

2) Requesting Free CD
If your internet connection is slow or downloading is not possible, you can request them to send a FREE copy of Ubuntu CD to your home. For that you need to create a "Launchpad" account using your email address. This procedure is easy and self-descriptive. More instructions can be found at : http://learnhub.com/redirect?u=https%3A%2F%2Fshipit.ubuntu.com%2F.

3) Buy Ubuntu CDs
Buy a CD or DVD with Ubuntu, Edubuntu or Kubuntu CD, or a large number of CDs from a distributor near you. If you are in North America you can get Ubuntu and Kubuntu on DVD from Amazon.com.
