International Admissions to the UIS

The University of Illinois at Springfield welcomes students from all over the world!

I'm an international student. What requirements do I need for admission to the university?

Applicants must comply with the same admission requirements as regular Undergraduate or Graduate applicants. You standardized test scores, grade point average, and class rank are evaluated.

Personal and Academic Statements
The Personal Statement is the applicant's chance to tell us about themselves. Describe interests and accomplishments which are not indicated elsewhere on your application.

Your Academic Statement requires you to tell us more about your professional aspiration, intellectual interests, and personal experiences relevant to the choice of a specific academic program at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Your statements should be 500 to 750 words in length.

English Proficiency
If your native language is not English, you must submit your official TOEFL or IELTS scores. Some graduate programs may have higher TOEFL entrance requirements.

Exceptions:
Applicants who have earned an associate's degree or higher in the United States with a GPA of 2.00 or better on a 4.00 scale are not required to submit international TOEFL scores.

Undergraduate applicants must have a minimum total score of:
TOEFL - 500 PBT, 173 CTB, 61 iBT
IELTS - 6.0 (academic module)

Graduate applicants must have a minimum total score of:
TOEFL - 550 PBT, 213 CTB, 79-80 iBT
IELTS - 6.5 IELTS (academic module).

Applicants whose TOEFL scores do not satisfy UIS' English proficiency requirement are encouraged to attend UIS' Intensive Summer Program for English Language and/or classes offered during the school year.
