Waltham Forest College offers a wide range of courses to suit international students. Whether you select a course from our English as a Foreign Language (EFL) programme, or EFL plus a Career Course, you will not only practise and improve your English but also advance your personal career path.

English
as a Foreign Language the learning experience |
At Waltham
Forest College, English as a Foreign Language teaching is of the
highest standard, reflecting our 30-years experience in this
subject. All our teachers are fully qualified to first or second
degree level, and hold diplomas in Teaching English as a Foreign
Language. Some of our teachers are also Cambridge examiners
and teacher trainers. Classes have a general maximum size
of 20 students.
In addition to
classroom-based learning, you will have access to the language
laboratory with a large resource centre of books and cassettes. All
courses combine general language teaching with a choice of
specialist options.
Exam entry for
one EFL examination is included in the
course fees. The EFL programme provides
the perfect route towards a Career Course at Waltham Forest College
if you still need to reach the required level of English language
proficiency.
| General English Course and Specialist Options |
This is a full
time course for all levels from beginners to advanced, starting in
September, January or April and running for three, six or nine
months. The weekly programme consists of eight hours of General
English and eight hours of optional specialist subjects.
Classes are
Monday to Friday between 9-30am and 5pm. The course leads to
Cambridge EFL examinations and

Programme
of study
In
General English, you will develop your reading, listening and
speaking skills; improve your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary
(eight hours per week).
Options
You will
choose a range of options such as: Commercial English, Computer
Assisted Language Learning, Study Skills, British Culture,
Communication Skills, and preparation for IELTS examination (eight hours a week).

- Certificate in Advanced English
- IELTS

| University Preparation |
This is a full time course averaging 21 hours per week, which contains specialist subjects. Students will study English to the standard level required for university entry.
Length:
September - June
Entry requirements:
Intermediate level of English, or IELTS 4.5 or TOEFL 400
Programme of study:
The course is divided into four different modules: English as a Foreign Language, Study Skills, British Culture and Subject Specialism. (This will depend on subjects currently offered at the College). The time spent on each module will depend on your level of English.

| English as a Foreign Language plus Vocational Courses |
English Plus
courses are designed to give you an introduction to a specialist
subject, and at the same time allow study of English as a Foreign
Language.
If you wish to
join an English Plus course, you must have an intermediate level of
English of IELTS 4.5 or
TOEFL 400.
The courses
average 21 hours a week; this includes English as a Foreign
Language and the specialist subject. You will be awarded a
certificate in the chosen subject, and will have the opportunity to
study towards Cambridge English examinations. You have the
opportunity to study towards the following Cambridge English
examinations:
- First Certificate in English
- Certificate in Advanced English
- IELTS
