Ragging on Campus
Colleges are kickstarting and there is one thing that one cannot miss. It comes to our mind without even
stressing it. Yes, you guessed it right. It’s the scary 'RAGGING'. Most of us enter the first day with fear and anticipation in college about what if we get ragged. It is very natural. But, the issue of worry is the concept of ragging and how you define it.
'RAGGING' is a form of mistreatment of freshers at the hand of seniors in educational institutions, also known as 'HAZING'. It is the stereotypical definition but it can also include sexual, physical and mental abuses to a person. Ragging earlier meant as something to be apprehensive of as there were some cases where it went over the head. But we cannot just take some cases in account and say for the whole concept. The times are changing and they are changing for good. Now, the present scenario is egtting subsumed into something more relaxing for the fuchchas. Ragging being prohibited all over the campus is not for any lame reason but as if done in a serious light can cause harm which may sometimes cannot be healed. The dreadful first few days are not any more dreadful as this year DUSU and police is taking measures to prevent any untoward incidents in the campus environment and make the freshers feel the spirit of joi de vivre. But the seniors are not disheartened if they do not get to test the juniors. Infact, they are also tension free that they also do not have to feel the blunt of the authorities as they are happy having fun and interacting with juniors.
Freshers have all the reason to be nervous. But even if the police is keeping its vigil, you cannot be sure that the campus is totally ragging free. You can expect the scavenger type seniors to preyon you. Seniors can catch you anywhere and everywhere. These are some tips that you can keep in mind...
- do not be overconfident if some one catches you
- be confident
- do not wear anything that catches anyone eyes for a first few days to escape the hazing
- do not do everything they say if you find it is not right
- try to be playful and cheerful
- if you find some fishy areas, better keep off them
If you are the adventurous types and do not want to miss the fun then go ahead and test your extrovert persona. Ragging can also boost your confidence if the intro gets well with the seniors but if not, nothing to worry about. It is just a passing phase and do not take anything straight to your heart as everyone who says something about you does not matter as they hardly know you. Enjoy this time of your life as it cannot be unwinded. do full on masti and mix up with the seniors, they won't eat you. It is fine till singing, dancing and introduction but do not bear the burden of anything that you can't bear.

'BETTER TO BE SMART THAN BRAVE' would be my suggestion.
