I like this video! Because of the pictures of younger children, that it shows that cooperativ learning can be used with younger kids as well. It is a really good eye-opener for other teachers.

This was one of the few videos I found online about CL. Its not bad. Have you seen any others?

You make an interesting point about younger kids… do you think CL works just as well with older and younger students?

Hi John Yes CL is relevant and will work with students of all ages. It does require though that teachers know how to structure effective and appropriate cooperative learning opportunities for the age of the participants. Certain activities and content are more appropriate for some ages than for others. There are literally hundreds of choices and combinations of activities More than enough for all ages and stages, including university and adult learners. Cooperative learning is the most researched educational strategy in the world (try googling cooperative learning to see what I mean) Plenty of references here from Felder and Pantiz to prove my point that cooperative/collaborative learning is crucial for senior students. When we look at the reality of adult lives, we find that we are constantly in team situations. At home it parents, children …talking, planning, arguing, trying to get along, growing and learning together. Now think of your office and the importance of team work to get things done…being able to work with others on a team is a 21st reality. Did you know that 82% of global companies rely on teams to ensure the success of their enterprise? So isn’t it incumbent on teachers/professors to provide team learning opportunities for primary, secondary and post secondary students so that they have multiple opportunities to practice and refine the team work skills they will use the rest of their adult lives.
