As an international student, you will be glad to know that the UK values diversity and tolerance. The UK has a wide mix of cultures, and especially if you live in the big city you are likely to find a community with your name on it. The British people don’t discriminate against foreigners.

As well, Brits value freedom. You will have the right to express whatever opinions you have and say or do whatever you want, as long as you don’t hurt anyone or cross the law. Individuality is also highly valued, and so is politeness. The British are often considered as cold, snobbish or shy by foreigners, but with the wide diversity you are likely to find some friends and fit in somewhere.

What a great place it is!

The UK is rich in green areas. Even the big cities have large parks and public gardens. Rural areas are never far away, and you can always travel to the countryside in a few hours . The scenery is beautiful all around!

If you’re more of a big city person, you would live the big city British life. Every city in the UK has a local pub where you can hang out with friends for drinks or watch the football game. The UK also features cities with a fascinating history, and the big cities contain world renowned arts and history museums. If you just look around, you will find that you’ll never experience a dull moment!

The UK is cool

Literally. The weather here is fairly moderate, although you may find the winters cold if you’re coming from warmer weather. The summers are warm, but not too hot (although it is significantly warmer in the south), and days are long. Winter sees snow in the Northern parts of the country, and days are short. Precipitation and rain are common throughout the year, especially in the west.

Food in the UK is great!

Although some people tend to dislike traditional British cooking (trust me), most cities in the UK offer a wide variety of restaurants with food from all over the world, so you’re bound to find something you like. You can also find all sorts of ingredients to cook your own food. Indian and Chinese restaurants are especially common.

The Brits tend to eat just like normal people- breakfast, lunch, and a large dinner/supper as the main meal. They also tend to have tea breaks at times, although nowadays people drink coffee as well. You would want to try out traditional meals like Fish & chips, Shepherd’s Pie, Bangers n’ mash, or roast beef and potatoes.

Lots to do!

British entertainment is great fun. You can go sightseeing in big cities like London or Manchester, or tour the various museum and tourist attractions. Going to a real Premier League football game is a cultural experience you don’t want to miss. You can also go shopping at some of the world’s most renowned shops and markets, like Harrods and Portobello Road.

The UK also offers a lot in terms of cinema, theatre, and musical acts. You could go see a play or watch your favourite rock band in concert. Comedy shows are also highly popular, although the British sense of humour may be a bit weird at first. And if you feel like staying home and watching TV, the BBC channels will keep you entertained for hours.
