44 deemed universities can admit students in the coming academic session, rules SC

44 deemed universities facing de-recognition finally sighed a breath of relief as Supreme Court rejected government's plea that they be stopped from going ahead with fresh admissions for the session starting in July.

As per a report published in Hindustan Times, Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium, on behalf of the Union HRD ministry, had requested the court to either stop the universities from admitting new students or declare in their prospectus about the ongoing case against them in the Supreme Court.

Questioning the legitimacy of government-appointed Tandon Committee, which advised de-recognition of the universities for allegedly failing to meet required standards, the apex court said that it could not pass any interim order as the validity of the committee was challeneged.

The apex court said, as reported by media, "the constitution of the committee is itself under challenge, it has to be adjudicated first… It would not be appropriate for us to pass any injunction."

The universities have alleged that since Tandon heads a deemed university himself, there is a conflict of interest in his appointment as head of the committee. The next nearing in the case is on August 3.

Deemed universities have welcomed the ruling, as they can now go ahead with their admission process that begins in May.

After the ruling was passed by SC, HRD minister Kapil Sibal said the government would abide by the court's verdict. "The Supreme Court is free to pass any order, but we had not passed any order to stop admissions in deemed universities. We had only set up an expert committee and in-principle agree with its recommendations. Moreover, we have not issued any showcause notice to anyone," he added.

this will be like playing with the future of the millions of students despite knowing the truth.
its a matter of time the universities will be stripped of their status-why the delay!
and if any of you think that the universities are good then believe me-they are not(i am in one such bogus block of buildings)

Thank God. Hope Supreme Court understood the hidden ajenda of Mr. Kapil Sibil to bring foreign universities in India for making money. Any way thanks a lot for Supreme Court to allow for new admission to 44 deemed universities. I hope that all these universities are better than the Government run colleges. Also even Mr. Tandon himself have a deemed university. So how can he suggest to derecognize all others except his uni. He is also making money from his university. We parents are thinking of our children's future. All political parties and ruling government and leftists, all has their own interest and all need to make profit for themselves. Nobody is thinking about the ordinary people or their future. So I have a request to supreme court that please do not prolong so much this matter. Please make a final decision to continue these universities with some upgrading rules.

pleas, let the supreme court understand that most of universities have students from different country not only Indian students which are affected.
I am an international student in one of the affected university, I hereby plead the supreme court and UGC to work with its norms with consideration of future of the million of students who have come to study in India and do the right thing to maintain the trust we have in India by coming here to study.
Because it would be so bad and sad that after the years of studies getting back to your country you hear that the university has being close-down
So, I suggest to supreme court that please do not prolong so much this matter. Please make a final decision to enable the the affected students of India and mostly the international students know the next step to their academy pursuit.

knowing that since the all these while am paying school fees without knowing the outcome of the university when the final decision will be taken.

please supreme court do not prolong the matter any more.

thank for your interest in foreign students.
