  5. Question
    Answer the following 4 questions given below.

    There are set of 4 quantum numbers:

    1. Principal quantum number is denoted by n. The values of n ranges from 1 to n. It gives information about the size and energy level of major energy shells. For one electron species, the mathematical expression of energy is
    E_n = \frac{-2 \pi^2 me^4z^2}{n^2h^2}
    For multielectron atoms, it determines only the probable energy of the electron.

    2. Azimuthal or angular quantum number is denoted by l. Its values ranges from 0 to (n–1) for s,p,d,f sub- shells respectively. It gives information about shape, energy level of subshell and orbital angular momentum of the electron,
    \bigg[\sqrt l(l+1) \frac{h}{2 \pi} \bigg]
    3. Magnetic quantum number is denoted by m. The values of m ranges from –l to +l. It give information about possible number of orientations of sub-shells.

    4. Spin quantum number is denoted by s. The values of s are 1/2 and –1/2. It signifies the direction of spin of electrons in an orbital.

    Q. The angular momentum l of an electron in a Bohr's orbital is given as;

  8. Question

    Q. The maximum value of l for an electron in fifth energy level is;

    Answers
    Correct Answer Text
  9. Question

    In each of the following 2 question, a statement of Assertion (A) is given and a corresponding statement of Reason (R) is given just below it. Of the statement, mark the correct answer as;

    Q. Assertion: The kinetic of the reaction -
     mA + nB + pC \rightarrow m'X+n'Y+p'Z obeys the rate of expression as \frac{dX}{dt} =k[A]^m[B]^n

    Reason: The rate of the reaction does not depend upon the concentrations of C.
