I believe they do fit best into the celtic rock genre; they’re pretty similar, and they use the same instrumentation and song stylings.

My favorite cover is definitley Pearl Jam’s version of the Who’s “Love Reign O’er Me,” but I’m not sure that’s what you mean by “interesting.”
Tori Amos has a really cool acoustic cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Also, any Apocalyptica cover of one of Metallica’s songs is pretty interesting.
You’ve got to be kidding!? Do you honestly believe Miley Cyrus has any singing talent? You can like her music if you so choose, but in my opinion she has no vocal range, her music doesn’t have true feeling (she doesn’t write her own songs), and she whines too much. An occasional one of her songs could have a good club beat, but that doesn’t even remotely make it… music. And that ends my rant :p.
acrosstheuniverse, you’re friend is awesome :) I always think that song sounds like it’s from a broadway musical or something; it just has that feel.
I had forgotten to add Björk. As a soloist, she is more of a electronica/pop singer, but when she was with The Sugarcubes she was definitley rockin’ out.
Yeah, go Bjork!
Bjork is such a progressive, hold-nothing-back artist. “It’s Oh So Quiet” is a very interesting song.
I’ll say the bass, without any bias what-so-ever. :P
We get to lay down the beat, and, when needed, we get to step out into the spotlight for a solo or an important part that can only be played on a bass. Not to mention, it’s associated with funk, the coolest genre of them all, lol, but I guess that’s not really rock.
Also, I give honorable mention to any classical instrument played in a rock band, like the cellists that make up Apocalyptica or the violinist in Dave Matthews Band, because, of course, classical instruments are super cool. (Ooh, if you combine the two, you get a double bass! Rock Around the Clock anyone?)
EDIT: Whoops, I meant disagree… Can it be changed?
Thanks, oLahv :)
The best by The Clash is “London’s Burning”
The best by Creedence Clearwater Revival is…
The best by Radiohead is “Paranoid Andriod”
The best by The Killers is…
PS – How do you underline? lol sorry
The things that classify lowbrow art are epression and humor, according to wikipedia (I don’t have extensive art knowledge, lol). Wikipedia actually specificaly mentioned punk music as an influence of lowbrow art, and I would agree that punk could likely be considered the “lowbrow” phase of rock.
Good question, actually. I’m not sure the Talking Heads really fit into any specific sub-genre (mentioned here or not). For the time they were around, perhaps they could be considered new wave music. I’ll add “art rock” (although it is quite broad in a styling aspect).
I’ve edited it to include “Alternative Metal/Nu Metal” :)
oLahv, singstar is a game for singing, but Rock Band and Rock Band 2 each feature singing. It’s my best instrument on Rock Band, lol. Bet you can’t beat my scores :p.
Assuming creationism, the chicken (all was created as is)
Assuming evolution, the egg (the chicken would have evolved from another species through adaptions or a mutation that would only be able to occur within the genetics of the offspring, which resides inside of the egg before hatching)
Feist is all right, and I like Heart. Metric is awesome :).
My favorites are: Dolores O’Riordan, of the Cranberries; Joan Jett, of Joan Jett + the Blackhearts; Grace Slick, of Jefferson Airplane. Also, Liela Moss singer of a more modern band, The Duke Spirit, reminds me a bit of Grace Slick (Listen to “The Step and the Walk”). Karen O, of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, is pretty good too.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are amazing! Gold Lion is a great song.
Heart’s Crazy on You is definitely a hit too. If you’ve seen the film the Virgin Suicides, you’ll see that it totally enhances the scene it’s in!
Guitar? Bass? Drums? You’re forgeting some of the most important instruments of rock music!
[guitar] Let There Be Rock (Live Version) – AC/DC
[guitar] Muffin Man – Frank Zappa
[guitar] Guitar Virus – Praxis (Buckethead is the guitarist)
[drums] In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida – Iron Butterfly
[electric bass] I Will Possess Your Heart – Death Cab for Cutie
[electric bass, xylophone, saxophone] One Better – Les Claypool
[bowed guitar] Ignorance is Bliss – Colonel Claypool’s Bucket Of Bernie Brains
[saxophone] So Much to Say – Dave Matthews Band
[organ] Light My Fire – The Doors
[banjo] The State of Massachusetts – Dropkick Murphys
[violin/fiddle] Devil’s Dance Floor – Flogging Molly
[classical piano] You Don’t Understand Me – The Raconteurs
[triangle] YYZ – Rush
[record scratching] Rockit – Herbie Hancock
[spoons] Spoonman – Soundgarden
[vocals] Hocus Pocus – Focus (look at his face! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpV5InLw52U lol)
My personal favorites have to be the triange or the spoons :p
As for Led Zeppelin, I vote Dazed + Confused.
Thank you :)
My favorites are probably the Celtic, Symphonic Rock, and Grunge genres, but really I enjoy all of it, aside from maybe a bit of punk (like the Sex Pistols). And yes, In a Gadda Da Vida is an awesome song (it’s by far the longest song I can listen to without losing interest, lol).
Thanks for making such a great list!
To be honest, I don’t love the Beatles, they’re a bit overrated in my opinion. And the RHCP song you have (link is broken) is from when their singer relapsed on drugs and Dave Navarro was the guitarist, so I don’t love it as much as others.
As for the rest, it’s a great list. No Rain and Baba O’Reiley are great songs. One question, though: what was the song that you forgot about at first?
Link is fixed.
I actually forgot about Baba O’Riley at first… it didn’t come to mind until I heard it on some random TV show, can’t remember which, probably a rerun of something. I just had to push it in.
I agree that some Beatles songs are overrated… Yesterday, for example, I never quite got why people consider it so great. But I guess everyone has their own taste…
I’ve gotta love Bittersweet Symphony, that song is just awesome. Can’t wait for the 10.
If Thriller, as acrosstheuniverse said, isn’t up there yet, I’m sure it will appear. And I hope there’s some AC/DC, but perhaps not. I’m going with more popular choices than great ones:
- Seven Nation Army, by the White Stripes
- Tubthumping, by Chumbawumba (lolz)
- Thriller, by Michael Jackson
- Highway to Hell, by AC/DC
- Under Pressue, by Queen (featuring David Bowie?)
- Something by R.E.M., I’m thinking Losing My Religion, but it could be Orange Crush
- Black, by Pearl Jam
- Another Brick in the Wall, pt. 2, by Pink Floyd (although you hinted that it would not appear on the list, as you chose “Hey You” over it)
- Dare, by Gorillaz
- Rock the Casbah, by The Clash
You never know where a library book has been!, lol. Library books are sometimes in bad condition, but normally they’re fine. I’m okay with the library, but I find buying a book much better. It could be bad, but it’s worth the risk. There’s no time constraint on returning the book when you buy it. Also, if the book you but is, in fact, terrible, oftentimes you know someone else who would like it fine.
On another note, if a book you want isn’t at the library, you have to wait for it (and sometimes it never shows up).
Do the song in phrases, and once you’ve got each phrase down, you can put them together, piece by piece. Just a suggestion, but it may not work for you; everyone is different.

Yeah, she’s really great! Her name is Allie Hughes, and she was one of the top ten contestants on the show. It was really too bad that she was eliminated, however she was touring in her own band prior to the show, so hopefully her touring career will be relaunched!
I doubt Andrew was being serious. Although I have to give it to her that she’s still staying “wholesome” in the eyes of today’s youth. There aren’t many role models for them to look up to.
