Thank you so much Stuttgart Trainers!! Kathy and I were thrilled with your video. It was such a surprise and we are so appreciative. It was indeed a pleasure and a privilege spending the training days with you and I must saw we are missing you. We drive by Stuttgart on our way to Esslingen and just look sadly at each other. But we are immensely proud of the training that you are doing and your dedication to Stuttgart teachers. Keep up the good work…Keep in touch…see you in October. Love to all of you in the video and everyone else too!! Kathy and Norm OOOOOO-these are the famous Candian hugs…taken to new heights by Jenny:)
Where there are heroes, especially one as charismatic as Obama, there will be hype. I think, in this case, it obviously reflects the very real need of Americans, and indeed the world, to have hope and optimism in very difficult times. Although expectations are very high, and everyone references that point, all but those critical of anything he does, I believe, will be willing to accept the best he can do, recognizing it won’t meet all expectations. Whatever he is able to accomplish will be moving toward something better than the US has right now. He is intelligent, has a great team and needs time. Some will be willing to give him that
Hi Joddy There are some simple interactive strategies that can be used to get people thinking about the content of a lecture or a presentation. The first step is to develop a set of questions that are worthy of consideration by the audience. Bloom’s taxonomy is a good guide to develop analysis, synthesis and evaluation questions. Over the next little while I will put together some of the best stems of questions based on this taxonomy. Our work with professors in Germany on this topic have been valuable in developing these. I will send another email later to further develop this topic. The best of the season Norm Green
Well deserved. Great team-Great product. Congratulations!
Download it to your computer and then go to google and type in translation. Not perfect, but very good. Good luck with that. Norm
Really a great lesson I enjoyed it all…thank you for sharing I will make my German and Canadian friends aware of it. Norm
Thanks Andrew. Would love your reflection on the activities and ideas:) cheers
Thank You Our presentation in Stuttgart went very well…they enjoyed viewing the flip charts from your session that highlighted the benefits of CL for students and for teachers, We enjoyed our session with you and your colleagues. Great to read that you are on line with us. It is so nice to keep in touch. Let us know how it goes in your classroom. We love stories and if you respond in German we can easily use a translation t to change it to English All the best Norm
One of my favourites is the snowball activity. We will use it in our training in Dortmund Germany tomorrow. It is kinesthetic and fun.Everyone gets a blank sheet of paper and place their name in the centre. One half of the participants answer a question-they then make a ball of their paper, throw the snowball and the others retrieve one ball each. They find the person who threw it and a discussion follows. Then the roles are reversed and a second question is asked. Great for review of a previous day’s learning.
Hi John Yes CL is relevant and will work with students of all ages. It does require though that teachers know how to structure effective and appropriate cooperative learning opportunities for the age of the participants. Certain activities and content are more appropriate for some ages than for others. There are literally hundreds of choices and combinations of activities More than enough for all ages and stages, including university and adult learners. Cooperative learning is the most researched educational strategy in the world (try googling cooperative learning to see what I mean) Plenty of references here from Felder and Pantiz to prove my point that cooperative/collaborative learning is crucial for senior students. When we look at the reality of adult lives, we find that we are constantly in team situations. At home it parents, children …talking, planning, arguing, trying to get along, growing and learning together. Now think of your office and the importance of team work to get things done…being able to work with others on a team is a 21st reality. Did you know that 82% of global companies rely on teams to ensure the success of their enterprise? So isn’t it incumbent on teachers/professors to provide team learning opportunities for primary, secondary and post secondary students so that they have multiple opportunities to practice and refine the team work skills they will use the rest of their adult lives.
