  1. From the lesson Working Abroad: What jobs should students take up?

    Fri, 17 Apr 2009 23:02:23 -0000

Dear Swadhina, that I would say varies a lot. It depends on various factors, such as: in what country you are studying/working, how many hours you will be working, whether you are already experienced in that particular job etc. Therefore, it’s very difficult to say.

  2. From the trivia question What should you do if you need to take an urgent call during a meeting?

    Fri, 28 Nov 2008 22:57:41 -0000

No, this would still be acceptable. However, also in that case I would put it on the vibrating mode so that it doesn’t disturb too much.

  3. From the trivia question You are attending a Japanese meeting and it seems that negotiations are coming to an end and a contract is being signed. That means ...

    Fri, 28 Nov 2008 22:54:34 -0000

Usually in Western countries once a contract is signed, it is final. This is not the case in Japan. Maybe it’s not very clear in my sentence. But once you sign a contract, don’t be surprised if renegotiations take place ….

Well, John I don’t know about this book but during my MBA I came across “The Marketing Manifesto”. But I will have a look at your suggestion on the free new online library ‘www.Europeana.com’, which has been launched (and crashed already) today….. Let’s see if it is among the 2 million books :)

Well in Japan you don’t give any tip at all for this kind of service. If you are interested in more details on tipping etiquette look at one of my lessons in my “MannersAndCareer” community. Thanks.

  7. From the trivia question At a business lunch who should pay the bill?

    Sun, 26 Oct 2008 18:51:53 -0000

Then I guess it would most probably not be a business lunch ….. Dividing it equally among friends would be okay. Obviously if you wish to volunteer you can pay for it anytime and others would surely appreciate….

      Hi Poshmonkey,

LearnHub and Antaragni, IIT Kanpur are organizing the CBC in partnership. Also, the CBC is being run out of the India office – hence the limited scope for participation. We’d like to use this contest as a stepping stone to a global contest.

At the moment, a global contest is definitely on the cards and we are as excited about it as you are. I hope this clears up things.

Now (30.09.2008) that the website looks a bit different I can’t find the marketplace at all. Can someone tell me where I can find courses in which I can enrol? Thanks.

  13. From the discussion Should Learnhub offer the possibility to run communities by teams and not just individuals?

    Tue, 30 Sep 2008 18:50:34 -0000

To be honest I’ve noticed this and it sounds great, but I also wished that one of the community managers would explain a bit more in detail how it works. For example, what happens to the allocation of authority points: is that being allocated still individually or as a group? Getting some other information would be great as well, such as do you need to ask the person for permission whether s/he agrees or not to be involved in that particular community?

      Ok, to answer your questions:

      • authority that you get for community leadership isn’t split, each leader gets the full caclulated amount.
      • you don’t need to ask permission to add someone as a leader. In most cases you’ll already know the person you are nominating, and will probably ask informally.

Also, You’d probably be interested to know that if you are the community creator, you cannot have your leadership revoked by a co-leader.

  14. From the discussion Should Learnhub offer LIVE discussions and debates?

    Tue, 30 Sep 2008 18:45:21 -0000

Unfortunately, I can’t think of any similar examples right now. But I will keep my ears and eyes open and would be happy to let you know if I come across something similar. I can imagine that technically it might not be easy, but I’m sure it would ADD VALUE to Learnhub in general.

I agree with Guarav. I would also be very much interested in knowing the deadline for this competition. So, are we talking about 1 month, 6 months, 1 year or longer?

  18. From the discussion Who would you hire: The full-time or part-time student?

    Thu, 18 Sep 2008 17:56:35 -0000

Well, I would also go for the best candidate. But my experience tells me that even the performance in an interview can be “great” just in that particular interview and when it comes to do the job the situation could look quite different….. What guarantee do you really have just based on that interview. My strategy therefore as a recruiter was usually to invite a person 2-3 times in different locations to see how the candidate behaves in various social settings.

If at the interview – let’s say – both candidates are performing similarly I would definitely choose the part-time student Mark, since he already got experience, and furthermore has proven to be able to manage a degree course and a job simultaneously. This shows me that the person can multitask, has learnt time management skills and is able to achieve his goals by working hard (due to the fact that he had to work for his degree). I would not be able to say that about Carl, candidate 1. He might have similar qualities but he couldn’t prove it so far.

  20. From the discussion How can "Learnhub" become a "WOW" website?

    Tue, 16 Sep 2008 20:09:46 -0000

I think the idea would be great, angel25 ! I came across a website “www.chipin.com” which allows you to collect money by donations. You enter the reason for raising funds, a deadline and the amount of money you wish – it is as simple as that. Well, you would need a Paypal account, but that also would be set up quickly. I tried to raise some small amounts of money for the purchase of two books, and mentioned it on two of my lessons, hoping that some Learnhubbers who think it was a good piece of work would maybe donate…. Since currently I’m a full-time mum with no income, I gave it a try on Learnhub. One request has already expired and the other one will expire on 30th September, but unfortunately I didn’t get a single cent, even though I had many views at my lessons. But obviously, in Learnhub’s case, it would be different. Would be great if they would decide to implement your idea….
