  1. From the unknown The ratio between the number of passengers travelling by I & II Class between two railway stations is 1 : 50, whereas the ratio of the I & II Class fares between the same stations is 3 : 1. If on a particular day, Rs. 1325 were collected from the passengers travelling between these stations, what was the amount collected from the II Class passengers ?

    Wed, 19 Aug 2009 21:41:17 -0000

There is no need to take n and m …instead take one of them as the ratio is given to us..so that you will get the correct answer (without approximation)

    Hi,

How can you conclude that the both the ratios will have a common multiple. For example if I say that ratio of boys and girls in Class A is 3 : 5 and in class B is 4 : 9. how can we conclude that both these ratios will have the common multiple. Since we are not sure, we have taken them as x and y

  3. From the unknown I have 16 sheep, some of which are white and some are black. How many are black?
1.The number of white sheep is higher than the number of black ones by 2.
2.The number of white sheep is odd.

    Wed, 19 Aug 2009 21:37:34 -0000

I did not consider anywhere in my calculation that half are white and half are black. All, I have taken is two simple equations….W + B = 16 and W – B = 2

    Wed, 19 Aug 2009 21:32:41 -0000

Made of money is something similar to Born with a silver spoon.

So it has nothing to do with option A.

Choice C is the correct answer.

Folks, get into the correct meaning of idioms…...don’t treat them just as sentences….

Yes, the answer must be 48 and this is just trying to take the multiples by trial and error

Hi, Principal does not always refer to a person….it means the “main”

For example, in the topic Compound Interest we say the Principal Amount lent is ….Here Principal does not refer to a person

Coming to this question we are looking for the word that means the “main” goal of psychology and hence the answer must be principal

To deprecate something is to condemn it as wrong in itself:

We deprecate the use of public money for nonessential purposes.

So, the word deprecating doesn’t fit into this sentence

I think they have modified the question and now it is clear. But the answer turns out to be – 16/3

The numerator evaluates to 8 and the denominator evaluates to – 3/2

Hence the answer is – 16/3
