  1. From the lesson Estimating Your Budget For Studying & Living

    Mon, 12 Oct 2009 11:55:26 -0000

Great lesson! Be aware that incidental fees might also be fees for Student Unions, club fees, or even those to recieve things like student cards or library access.

I am currently studying abroad in Sweden and what I didn’t consider befor going was the price of common things like food that really started to add up. Budgeting on all levels really is key, however hard to keep up!

  2. From the discussion Fair Trade = restricted trade?

    Mon, 12 Oct 2009 11:31:20 -0000

I would say that for the most part Fair Trade co-ops encourage farmers and their families on the basis of working together within a community and towards a better life. I know that many fair trade organizations such as Ten Thousand Villages have tons of examples how their fair trade products not only give farmers and handicraft workers more money for their work cutting out the middle person, but also provide important social services such as scholarships for their children or building health care centres or schools.

I do however see that fairtrade labelling is a very expensive and labouring process for organizations just trying to get by. But I think in the end it is worth the effort, as it gives consumers more of an idea into what they’re buying into.

Also, are there any natural plant dirived dyes that still exist?

  7. From the discussion Welcome!

    Tue, 09 Dec 2008 05:16:59 -0000

    Hi Avinash,

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I had originally intended for this course to be a broad introduction on the concepts to resume writing. these lessons should give students the basic tools they need to find the resume type that suits their own situation, job application and personal strengths.

If you have any other tools you feel would be a nice addition to the resources here, feel free to add them. We’d love to have more to go from than just my work!

    Cheers to you!

Hi Chand21, I think your pencil choice should be fine. Check with your test supervisor prior to writing, but it should be fine. Happy testing!

  10. From the lesson Transcript of Obama's speech: "Yes, we can"

    Mon, 10 Nov 2008 21:31:02 -0000

This speech I can see becoming a milestone in rhetoric. His devotion to his country and the words and way in which he spoke truly gave me shivers! Plus the fact that I’m so enthralled and inspired by the “change that is among us” despite the fact that I am not an American citizen really says something.

I agree…the fact that Barack Obama has become president gives me hope for the world and for myself too. I’m sure there are a lot of kids out there who are thinking to themselves, if he can do it, I can too. I think it’s safe to say Barack Obama is my new motivation for doing better.

  11. From the discussion Where's your next trip going to be?

    Tue, 04 Nov 2008 13:45:15 -0000

This may seem tame, but I’d like my next trip to be somewhere out in the West coast of Canada. I’ve started to realize the potential of this country and the diversity of geology and geography that surrounds us. I’ll be on the East coast in different communities for the next little while, but I’m very much looking forward to a part of this coming summer to take in the Rockies, some hiking and taking in the parts of the West that haven’t completely converted to tourism. Any suggestions on where to go or activities to do in British Columbia or Alberta?

  12. From the discussion I have a plant....

    Tue, 04 Nov 2008 13:37:42 -0000

As Heather said, a picture would definitely help us identify your prized plant! I have a feeling it may be a spider plant just from the description. Are the leaves waxy? As for the brown edges, this may be from overwatering or lack of sunlight. I sometimes take off these bits, but it doesn’t matter a whole lot whether you do or not.

The good thing is that your little plant will help to cleanse the air around you. Plants are like little green powerhouses that help purify indoor air.

Looking forward to seeing your new eco-addition!

  13. From the discussion What are you planning on studying?

    Mon, 27 Oct 2008 03:18:10 -0000

I have been priviledged to go to a Canadian university for my undergrad and so far it has been an amazing experience. There are so many programs and different fields to get into, as well as many volunteer opportunities too.

I am very interested in continuing my studies in the form of a Masters internationally. Doing this would allow me to explore my intellectual capabilities as well as explore a new country at the same time!

    Hi Evelyn,

Great to hear you’re on Ravelry too! I’ve found it to be a great resource for finding interesting patterns and seeking help on them when I get confused (which happens a lot!). Do you have a favourite aspect of Ravelry? Have you been a member for very long?

    Mon, 27 Oct 2008 03:01:04 -0000

Tuition rates are very important when looking for a suitable school. Knowing that you will be able to budget out what your education will cost from the start to the finish can really help students prepare and stay financially secure.

As always, great tips Olahav. I’m definitely a stickler for “the art of the night before”, although it’s a really bad habit. I need to remember that practice does indeed make perfect!

Is this pho-reals? Because it is off the hook. I’m missing that savoury broth and noodle goodness right about now. Not too big on that white, scally beef trite is it? Hope you all had a pho-filling lunch!

Haha, yeah it can sometimes get confusing! The main thing to remember about adverbials is that they are like adverbs that describe, tells something about, or modify a verb or sentence. Adverbials just come in more varieties and ways of usage!
