  1. From the lesson Academics at Mississippi State University

    Mon, 24 Nov 2008 17:04:26 -0000

I earned my B.A. and M.A. at MSU and went on to earn my Ph.D. at the University of Alabama. Mississippi State prepared me very well for my Ph.D. program and for my career as a college professor. Today, I still tell my students about several of the great professors at MSU that made a lasting impact on me. Go DAWGS!!!

  3. From the discussion Palin-Champion of Women?

    Sun, 21 Sep 2008 17:51:47 -0000

Personally, I am offended by the assumption made by the McCain campaign that as a voter I would support ANY candidate because I identify with the candidate’s gender, family status, ethnicity, etc. That type of thinking is what got us into trouble with Bush; as he cleared brush on his ranch, he was hailed as “just a regular guy”. The most important thing at the end of the day, is what are Palin’s positions on important issues? That is what would matter should McCain/Palin be elected. So far, we don’t know much about what she would do, because according to her, the media hasn’t given her enough “deference and respect” for her to agree to answer any questions. That comment alone should serve as a red flag.

  5. From the discussion Having trouble with something?

Hello, I’m new to LearnHub, so I’m still learning the best ways to do some of the basics. I’m trying to put a link to a website in my community or in my course. However, the only place that seems amenable to this is the concepts link, but it only allows Wikipedia’s URL. What do you suggest? Thanks!

  6. From the discussion Comment on this article on immigration and Latino partisanship

    Mon, 08 Sep 2008 17:33:58 -0000

Joe, I agree. Immigration has definitely been used as a wedge issue. Yet it isn’t addressed in earnest during the debates or in the mainstream media. In fact, except for this WSJ editorial, there has been little discussion about the more hardline conservative immigration plank in the platform that was just passed at the GOP convention.

  7. From the discussion comment on this article on immigration and partisanship

Mark, I completely agree. What I’m not sure about is if it will change anytime soon. Both parties seem to have put immigration issues at the back of the line. So much could be solved if the bureaucratic “red tape” that you mention could be reduced.

  8. From the discussion Political campaigns should be publicly funded

    Wed, 13 Aug 2008 18:32:37 -0000

Although I agree that lobbyists in politics do pose a problem, one way to solve the problem is to have millions of small donors, as Obama has. He has not taken any money from lobbyists, but rather 90% of his donations have come from donations of less than $200. If there is transparency in terms of strong ethics laws, we can keep elected officials accountable and make decisions based on which groups support the candidates. Also, while Obama and McCain have raised a tremendous amount of money, campaigns are expensive these days because of television. It would be great if all voters were internet activists the way many of us are, but the reality is that the overwhelming majority of people still get their news from TV, not the internet.
