if we divide a no. by 5 we get remainder=2 so, no can be 5x+2 if we divide this no. by 7 we get remainder=3 so,(5x+2)=7y+3 so, x=(7y+1)/5 & y can be 2,7 & x can be 3,10 if we divide no by 8 we get remainder=4 5x+2=8z+4 so,above value of x shoud satisfy this condition z=(5x-2)/8 so only x=10 satisfies 3rd condition. so x=10 & no=[52]

On dividing a number successively by 5,7,8, the remainder obtained2,3,4 respectively

So, the number will be of the form: 5(7(8X+4)+3)+2

The question asks for what will be the remainder when the same number is divided successively by 8,7,5 ?

let football= F, cricket=C,hockey=H only H=3,only C =3, only F=2, as given F+C+H=4, now the total player who can play C+F=11, so the players who can play only C+F= 11-4=7. similarly, the players who can play only F+H=10-4=6. but we are given given total 30 players so the players who can play onlyC+H=30-(3+3+4+6+7+2)= 5. solved

  4. From the unknown

In a survey of 100 students it was found that 50 used the college library, 40 had their own library and 30 borrowed books. Of these 20 used both the library and their own, 15 used their own library and borrowed books and 10 used the college library and borrowed books. How many students used all the three sources of books?
