why is it necessary to use “and” before “professional albums”?

  5. From the trivia question GMAT Prep- Quantitative Section #224: I just ate dinner at a fancy restaurant, where it is customary to give a tip to the waiter of between 12% and 18%. If an acceptable payment for a meal including tip would be no less than $40.88, how much did the meal cost before the tip?

    Thu, 21 Aug 2008 16:39:18 -0000

To calculate the minimum meal bill. The only option with 4 at last is first option, which when multiplied by 1.12 should give 8 as the last digit. So I marked first option….But it isn’t correct..Can somebody tell me why??

  6. From the trivia question 90. Find the major error:
The average Starbucks customer buys one coffee cup every morning, and they also buy one baked good per week.

    Wed, 20 Aug 2008 12:39:42 -0000

In addition to the pronoun error, I think “An average ….” would have been correct instead of ” The average….”

  7. From the trivia question GMAT- Quantitative Section Q#48: I've got two wheels on my stunt bike. One has a diameter of 20 cm and the other of 16. I want the wheels to rotate at the same cm/minute ratio so that I don't fly off my stunt bike and die. If the large wheel makes r revolutions a minute, how many revolutions does the small wheel make in an hour?

As contrasted with the grizzly bear, the Panda bear lives in the Far East and is a highly endangered species.

    Sun, 17 Aug 2008 19:27:33 -0000

I think a small spelling mistake is there in the question “leaves” should be”lives”.

  10. From the trivia question GMAT Prep- Data Sufficiency #287: What is the slope of my line?
    1. My line intersects y=3x+1 at (1,4)
    2. My line is perpendicular to y=3x+1

    Sun, 17 Aug 2008 14:51:50 -0000

let us say required line is y= mx + c

then from 1st statemant, we only get to know the point of intersection, it is not said anywhere wether it is parallel or perpendicular to given line. so it is insufficient information.

from 2nd statement, we know slope of two perpendicular lines follow the rule m1*m2 = -1 So it is sufficient to calculate the slope of required line

Music is rapidly becoming more sophisticated and electronic andso too are synthesizing equipment, they are the devices to allowmusic to become digitally complex.

    Sun, 17 Aug 2008 14:37:29 -0000

I think it would have been better ” Music is rapidly becoming more sophisticated” instead of ” Music is becoming rapidly more sophisticated”....what do you say guys?

Globalization and attempts to connect the boundaries of demographics and geography such as free and fair trade still has not extensively improved the conditions of poverty in most countries.

    Sat, 16 Aug 2008 20:14:38 -0000

I strongly agree with ysridhar05. Actually it becomes very confusing when Globalization requires a singular verb but attempts require a plural verb.

  13. From the trivia question GMAT Prep- Data Sufficiency #291: Does a=b?
    1. \frac{a-b}{5}=0
    2. \frac{a+b}{5}=0

    Sat, 16 Aug 2008 17:06:55 -0000

    First option: is self sufficient.

Second option: Consider a case where both a and b are zero. Then a=b. Hope this explains.

  17. From the trivia question GMAT- Data Sufficiency Q#71: A farmer has 2 farms. Farm A has twice as many cows as farm B. As a fraction of total cows, how many are sick?
    1. There is a total of 200 cows in both farms.
    2. 2/5 of cows in farm A are sick, and 1/5 of cows in farm B are sick.

    Sat, 16 Aug 2008 16:25:08 -0000

I think it would have been better, if question asked “what % or fraction of total no of cows are sick”. Right now it asks ” how many” which confuses with exact no.

    (X+6) = (X/(X-2)) which implies X2 + 4X – 12 = X

    X2 + 3X -2 = 10

    I hope this explains…

  20. From the trivia question 274. GMAT Critical Reasoning:
