  1. From the discussion max financial aid

    Tue, 07 Apr 2009 13:09:45 -0000

Most need-based bursaries and financial aid actually come from the government, which would only sponsor domestic students in most cases. However, some scholarships do take both academics and financial need into account, so as odd as it sounds you have a better chance to get a scholarship if you’re smart and poor than if you’re smart and rich. Again, please check out our Directory, the featured schools often have good scholarship programs.

  2. From the discussion pharmacy in canada

    Tue, 07 Apr 2009 13:02:30 -0000

The Universities of Toronto, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and British Columbia all offer a Master of Science in Pharmacy.

In order to be a pharmacist in Canada you need a Canadian degree, you have to pass the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada exam, and you’ll probably have to complete some Canadian experience in terms of working as an intern for a while.

To apply to university, just contact their admissions office and they’ll provide you with the necessary information. The admissions for Fall 09 are probably closed, but you may be able to make it into the Winter 10 term or later. You can also ask the schools about scholarships and they’ll be able to give you more information. Visit our scholarships community too for additional resources. Once you’re admitted you can apply for a student visa, your school may be able to help but generally you’ll have to go through the Government of Canada website for the official procedure.

    Good luck with everything!

Generally, to gain admissions into a masters degree in pharmacy, you’ll need a bachelor degree and a GRE score. I’m not sure whether Canada recognizes pharmacy certificates from other countries, I know that general medical designations and other professional designations are generally not recognized. You might have to take a certain exam, though I’m not entirely sure. If you do have a bachelor degree you should be fine. You’ll also probably need proof English, so you’ll have to take the TOEFL. I suggest you contact a Canadian school and ask them.

Most universities offer financial aid to undergrad international students. However, “maximum” aid is not very common. In fact, you shouldn’t count on financial aid covering a large portion of the tuition, you’re likely going to have to pay for it yourself. That’s just how it goes, education is an investment- you have to pay for it now in order to benefit from it in the future.

That said, our Directory does list some great schools that often offer lots of great scholarships. You should check it out. But unless you can secure enough money ahead of time, you should consider other options, like taking out a loan or studying in a less expensive school than the top ones.

  5. From the lesson Albert Camus: The Myth of Sisyphus

Camus uses storytelling in his essay, when he describes the Myth of Sispyhus and uses that to explain his own ideas. I think that’s what it is anyway.

    Mon, 06 Apr 2009 17:03:30 -0000

You should search for scholarships using some of the search engines mentioned above. Scholarships of $22,000 are not easy to get, but if you can find 5 scholarships of just $5,000 that’ll get you covered. You should consider that when applying. As well, if you don’t manage to find or successfully apply for enough scholarships, a loan may be a solution. Best of luck.

  7. From the discussion Functions (Grade 11 = MCR3U1)

    Mon, 06 Apr 2009 13:27:49 -0000

Personally I always like using Wikipedia. It’s got everything, but sometimes the material can go over your head if you’re only in grade 11.

With function transformations you don’t really have to know much. Just memorize the major functions and remember their usual points. Then with a transformed function you can either just memorize things like f(x + k) means shifting a function to the left by k units, etc. Or you can plug in the usual points and it’ll help you figure it out.

You can post any questions you might have here, I’m sure members of the community can help you solve them.

  8. From the lesson 8 Engineering Streams For Study US, Canada & UK Aspirants

    Mon, 06 Apr 2009 13:18:18 -0000

Bioengineering is applying the engineering concepts to biology and medicine. It’s a part of the broader biotechnology which includes other stuff like bioinformatics, genetic engineering, and more. There’s a lot going on in that field, they’re genetically engineering foods and trying to engineer new medical solutions, etc. The US has a lot of good schools for bioengineering. I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to find some good programs with our school search.

You can add contacts by going to a person’s profile (just click on their name or avatar) and clicking on “Add As a Contact” on the right side of the screen. This will send the person a message to confirm you as a contact, and if they want to be your contact and press “accept” that’s it. You’ll be able to find your contacts, requests, etc. by going to your own profile and clicking on “contacts”.

  10. From the discussion Is 10 yrs Exp excessive when applying for MBA?

    Mon, 06 Apr 2009 13:07:06 -0000

I don’t think 10 years is excessive. Yeah, it can be hard to go back into school and studying, but if you were good at it and enjoyed it I’m sure it’ll all come back to you. Schools like people with lots of experience, because it shows they really have a good chance of being great managers and already have a good understanding of how businesses work. If you study hard enough a 700 on the GMAT should not be impossible, it just depends on how much you prepare.

One option you may wish to consider is enrolling in an EMBA, an Executive MBA program. These are designed specifically for working managers and executives with over 10 years of experience. You can find out more about them by contacting schools, and the directory contains lots of great schools for MBA across the globe.

    Good luck.

Sounds like you have a long way to go before you start the application process for MTech. You’ll first need to finish the BE degree with as high marks as you can, then likely you’ll have to take the TOEFL/IELTS and the GRE to get admissions into a good school. You can find some great schools on our school directory. Good luck.

    Fri, 03 Apr 2009 13:26:09 -0000

The top ones are the usual names- Cambridge, Oxford, etc. They’re expensive though and require a really great profile. More realistic ones would be University College London, Newcastle University, the schools in Durham, Cardiff, Birmingham, and more. You can also find amazing schools and apply directly through the LearnHub school directory. Good luck.

  14. From the discussion critical reasoning:I keep forgetting answers, while reading CR section, any tips?

    Fri, 03 Apr 2009 13:15:22 -0000

The general tips in CR is to read the question before you read the text. I find that reading the entire question (i.e. the question plus the answer choices) can throw you off track and be confusing. Plus you’re right, it’s easy to forget all the answer choices. I think you should focus on just reading the question part ( such as “which of these can be used to refute the statement?” or “what assumption must be made?”), without the answer choices. This will give you a hint of what to look for- whether it’s underlying assumptions, implications, and very often a weak point in the argument.

Once you figure out what the statement is trying to say and which direction you’re trying to go (refute, strengthen, etc.), then reading the answer options will help you rule out ones that don’t belong and choose the appropriate one.

That’s just how I work, others may have different ways. I suggest you try looking at just the answers first, just the question, or just going top to bottom and see what works best for your thought pattern. Good luck.

  15. From the discussion MBA in The Netherlands

    Fri, 03 Apr 2009 13:09:43 -0000

If you’ve get experience from the Netherlands, it definitely makes good sense to study there, no doubt. I think these are perfectly acceptable reasons to choose an MBA school. I would think the Netherlands would be better than Finland, just because it’s got more global appeal as far as I know. As a matter of fact, Dutch experience can probably be helpful all around the EU, so you might want to think about places like Germany and Switzerland too.

As important as going to a good , highly-reputable school is, I think it’s also important to be in a good environment in which you’re comfortable. A large part of business school is networking and finding people to connect to, and if you’re doing that in a country where language and culture is a barrier, you might have a problem.

Those are just my thoughts though.

  17. From the lesson Randy Pausch: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams

    Thu, 02 Apr 2009 20:22:08 -0000

Well, you can’t escape the fact that by any standard, this guy did have a good life. It’s easier to deliver an amazing speech about success and achieving your dreams when you’ve been at the top of the industry (or academy) like this guy, or Steven Jobs.

What about all the guys who try and fail, be it because of lesser talent or simply bad luck? You never hear their speeches. And I’ll bet you there are plenty of people who would tell you to stop chasing your dreams, because you can end up crashed under false hope. I don’t think they’ve got much enthusiasm for life.

“Go achieve your childhood dreams” sounds like great advice, because we all want to do that. But in reality people need a solid job and a normal life- we can’t all work for Disney and Apple. Sometimes in life you it’s important to keep your feet on the ground and make sure you’re head is not in the sky.

    Any thoughts?

  18. From the trivia question 66. Sentence Correction: The rapid exchange and speedy communication of email is why it is favoured among business savvy employees.

    Thu, 02 Apr 2009 18:31:51 -0000

Yeah, it seems like the top portion doesn’t agree with the bottom, this is a sentence correction question, not error identification. I’ll fix that.

The reason answer D is incorrect (which is the second favourite answer), is because we have 2 reasons, and “is” cannot be used on a plural subject.

  19. From the discussion The Big Ticketmaster/Live Nation Debate

    Thu, 02 Apr 2009 13:44:32 -0000

    More news coming up.

First of all, Sean Moriarty, a top executive of Ticketmaster, just resigned. Rumours say it’s because he expects to lose his position anyway once the merger comes along, but maybe it’s got something to do with all the possibly-shady business going on at Ticketmaster? Who knows.

But on better news- there’s a new system in town. It’s still running on Ticketmaster, but it solves resales. It’s called Paperless Ticketing, which means that instead of showing your ticket stub at the door, you’ll just need a piece of ID to get in, and when you buy the ticket you’ll have to give your name and details. This eliminates resale because you need to actually identify yourself. And that’s awesome. Metallica is on board with this idea for some concerts, and hopefully more bands join in. It doesn’t solve the extra charges, and it might decrease demand for tickets a bit (but demand is so high these days who cares?) but overall I like the idea.

No news on any of the legal developments as of yet by the way.

  20. From the discussion MBA in The Netherlands

    Thu, 02 Apr 2009 13:05:03 -0000

I personally have no idea about the MBA situation in the Netherlands, but I expect the big universities in the big cities (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Hague) will have good MBA programs. Since the Netherlands is in the EU, the bigger, more international universities may offer MBA programs in English, but it’s worth checking to make sure. Out of curiosity, why are you thinking about Netherlands for MBA?
