The general tips in CR is to read the question before you read the text. I find that reading the entire question (i.e. the question plus the answer choices) can throw you off track and be confusing. Plus you’re right, it’s easy to forget all the answer choices. I think you should focus on just reading the question part ( such as “which of these can be used to refute the statement?” or “what assumption must be made?”), without the answer choices. This will give you a hint of what to look for- whether it’s underlying assumptions, implications, and very often a weak point in the argument.
Once you figure out what the statement is trying to say and which direction you’re trying to go (refute, strengthen, etc.), then reading the answer options will help you rule out ones that don’t belong and choose the appropriate one.
That’s just how I work, others may have different ways. I suggest you try looking at just the answers first, just the question, or just going top to bottom and see what works best for your thought pattern. Good luck.
