About Me
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Practice in the School of Information and Library Science and in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UNC-Chapel Hill, I have a M.S.Information Science from UNC – Chapel Hill, an M.A. in architecture from the University of Washington and a B.A. in art education from Western Washington University. I joined the UNC-CH faculty in January 2003, after three years as senior information designer and web programmer for ibiblio.org. My teaching areas include visual communication, graphic design and digital/web media. I have almost 30 years of experience in design, visual communication and fine art. Prior to my work with computers, I worked in the studios of Milton Glaser, and Pasanella and Klein, then later ran my own architectural firm in Baltimore.
Publications include A Case Study In The Organizational Development Of A Digital Library: SunSITE – MetaLab – Ibiblio; The Problem of Access in Contributor-Run Digital Libraries (co-authored with M. Efron and P. Jones) and Information Archeology.
